Orval beer is a high fermentation beer. The ageing process adds a fruity note, which strikes a subtle balance between the beer’s full-bodied yet complex flavour and bitterness.
The beer was first brewed in 1931 and owes its unparalleled taste to the quality of the water, the hops and the yeast used. The brewery has selected very aromatic and unique hop varieties, which hark back to the first brewmaster of Orval, who hailed from Bavaria. The beer’s aromas are very pronounced while maintaining the right level of bitterness thanks to the English method of dry hopping.
The various stages of fermentation – combined fermentation with the original yeast and with wild yeast, followed by fermentation in the bottle – mean the beer must age for some time and requires numerous quality controls.

Barwa ciemnego bursztynu, zamglone, piana biała, dość obfita, dość trwała. W aromacie skórka pomarańczy, suszone morele, banan, cukier trzcinowy, karmel, kwiaty. W smaku półwytrawne, dużo nut owocowych, głównie w stylu brzoskwiń, moreli, gorzkiej pomarańczy, do tego kontra karmelowa z akcentem trzciny cukrowej. Nieznaczne nuty białego wina, mało przypraw, estry kwiatowe. Goryczka średnia, wysycenie średniowysokie, ciało w normie, dobra pijalność, całkiem sporo się dzieje. Klasyka w dobrej formie.

28-1 gebotteld. Zoet maar toch een brett smaakje, benenwarmers van przewalskipaarden overduidelijk aanwezig, biologisch vrije uitloop leer, tochtige Belgische kerker. Blijft één van de lekkerste bruistabletten ooit.

bottle (2019) @Luppolo Station (Rome). Ambrata viva, leggermente torbida, schiuma bianca abbondante e persistente. Al naso note di malto, cuoio, pelle, leggera frutta gialla, lemon zest, spezie. In bocca è complessa nella sua apparente semplicità, con attacco maltato e chiusura con bretta protagonista, speziata, leggero erbaceo, taglio amaro. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Splendida.
