Our sweet black currant mead, Black Agnes, is named after one boisterous Scottish wench who successfully defended the Scottish Castle of Dunbar during a five-month siege by William Montague, the Earl of Salisbury. While relatively unknown in the United States, black currants have been grown in the British Isles for more than five hundred years, and used by herbalists since the Middle Ages. Sharply tart and acidic, the potent flavors of the fruit are perfectly balanced by the sweetness of premium honey to create a particularly unique, memorable and delicious mead.

Bottle, at bottle share, thanks to Ryan. Pours ruby red. Blackcurrant, rich tart blackcurrant, red grape, honey, sweet, raspberry, floral, hint of dark chocolate, fig, so blackcurrant. Oily body. Absolutely insane.

From Ryan at a share: pours very pretty maroon. Aroma is a lovely blend of black currant honey. Taste is sweet, fruity, deeply complex. Syrupy and smooth. Incredibly good.

Still quite young and will reach its perfect 5 with softer tannins after a few more years in the cellar. That said, ostkaka and Black Agnes 🤤

Bottle @ Aaron Returns 2017. Pours deep dark red. Aromas of black currants, sweet honey. Taste is straight up black currant juice, tart black currants, sweet honey. Super fuckin delicious.

Thanks Gregg for sharing! Taster showing dark wine red with no head. The nose shows intense notes of black currant. The palate is medium bodied. Extremely black currant throughout with perfect balanced sweetness with more black currant on the finish.

28-09-19 // bottle shared at Mon Petit Cafe Suttgart on Zwanze Day 2019. Batch 8. holy shit. Lovely sweet nectar. i am not a big connoisseur of meads yet but this is awesome. Deep black currants on a sweetish thick honey body. Well balanced and so smooth.
