Rookop is a brown, top-fermented ale formerly brewed by the St.-Joris brewery in the village of Reningelst until 1963. We were asked to bring the most famous beer of this former brewery back to life and made it a dubbel-style ale brewed with Admiral and Golding hops, fruity and sweet with some chocolate notes.
Our Rookop was brewed for the first time on May 5, 2012.

One of many Belgian dark beers. Sweetish, coffeeish and a subtle bitterness.

Think that I picked this up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at home, Sunday 10th November 2013 Pours dark brown with a soft creamy textured beige head. To me this tastes not unlike a smaller brother of Rochefort 8, very moreish, very easy drinking, some chocolate, its a little bit fruity, enjoyable, very enjoyable. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Dark red color, small beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly sweet, slightly caramel and slightly some fruityness. Average body, medium carbonation.

Bouteille 25cl.

Light cloudy dark brown beer, no head. Hoppy aroma mixed with roasted malts. Caramel, light chocolate and light banana. Fresh hoppy flavour, light bitter, some roasted malts. Fresh fruity finish, with herbal notes of fresh green leaves. Quite nice.

Head fast gone; fully hazy dark brown beer. Sweetish, lightly smoked-ashy nose, dry. Wry-lightly bitterish flavour (chicory), also woody, yeast products, green leaves. Light "smoked chocolate", if that makes sense. Very slick, medium to well-bodied. Nice, if unspectacular. Not one to serve too cold.

Bottle sampled @ GBF 2012 // hazy darkish brown with not much in the way of a head // smell is a bit on the sweeter side, malt heavy, some chocolate and light bread, I am getting some light roasted malts here // taste is lightly roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, sweetish milk chocolate, light roast in the back as well, Belgian-esque fruits and small touch of bread // m/m body // ok - wonder what it was like before

26/VII/2012 - 25cl bottle from the brewery @ Klaas' place - BB: IV/14 - (2012-756) Thanks to Bene for sharing the bottle!

Little cloudy brown beer, small beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, malty, yeast, bit dusty, some chocolate. MF: ok darbon, medium body. Taste: quite some chocolate, mocha, some caramel, overripe fruits, touch of banana. Aftertaste: mocha and chocolate again, bit of alcohol, toast. Not too sweet at all, pleasantly surprised about this one!
