Hand pulled pint from my local Wetherspoons on 30th Nov 2011. Deep mahogany colour with an off-white crown of foam on top, the aforementioned head left plenty of lacing on the UK sleeve it was poured into. Malts ruled the aroma, with a fruity backnote of blackcurrents/berries (Bramling Cross and Boadicea hops used, the malts: Optic). The taste followed the smells, with a Christmasy richness that gave the beer a deeper depth of body as well as adding to the flavours of roasted biscuit type malts and dark berries. Both bitter and sweet in equal measures, a pleasant winter ale worth trying.
