Would you like a strong beer? Then try our Stout in Esen at De Dolle Brouwers. In addition to the strengthening qualities, the anti-cancer substances humuleen and xantohumol are also present in tenfold. This is currently being investigated.
Be quick

Stout was designed at the request of our American importer and is brewed only a few times a year. It has the same fermentation as Oerbier and 9 percent alcohol by volume. The malts determine the colour and bitterness. For lovers of this type of beer, Stout is highly recommended!

Had it before of course, but never rated it. This one is 5 years old, bottled in 2020. Big, rich, thick malts. reminds me of Dutch microbrew...heavy on the specialty malt. Odd sour funk tone that I dont recall being there in years past, seems a little infected or something. Oily coffee feel, but I dont think sou and coffee complement each other well. Drinkable, but probably aged far too long.

33cl bottle from AbeerVinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark, almost black, with plenty of brown foam. Aroma is of licorice, toasty, less roasty instead. Body and carbonation are average. Taste is roasty bitter, with a hint of sweetness in the beginning. Final remains roasty.

opaque black, HUGE, and i mean HUGE light brown head that lasts forever. Aroma is roasted malt, and lots of it! Super robust, and some hints of coffee, and a slight sour funk, with a touch of alcohol. Flavour is slightly sour, but not over powering, its actually nice. Lots and lots of roasted malty goodness. Again, hints of coffee, and some chocolate, and the alcohol is hidden well in the flavour. Overall a very very nice stout.

Tap at ZBF. A genuine Belgian Stout with coffee, chocolate taste and very lively on the tongue.

33 cl bottle at La Abadía, Madrid, served in a high-stemmed tasting glass. A dark brown pour with reddish highlights below a thick, inches-high, rocky, off-grayish head. Aroma is coffee, mulberry, blackberry, bilberry, cola gummy. Taste is dry, very crisp, medium-bodied. Finish is way bitterer than I expected, but the acidity controls it and renders it balanced. New tinges of espresso and cocoa in the long-lasting aftertaste. Nice.

330mL bottled Feb 2020, drunk 10/25/23. Clear, dark, ruby/magenta-highlighted mahogany. Large, dark beige head showing strong retention. Nose is quite prune-like with light elderberry, tobacco, leather and little/no roast. Peppery phenols and very lean malts with not-overdone specialty malts and moderate mineral on the finish. No alcohol noted. Soft and malty, with very high attenuation and the three years on a warm shelf certainly contributing more to that. For all that, there's no fusel, no crude phenols/esters. Just dark fruits, tobacco, leather, mineral and pepper, as seen in the nose. With extended warming/breathing, it achieves a lovely balance. Just enough caramel/toffee-like sweetness to balance out the dark fruit, leather and mineral. I recall this being pretty intense when young, but this seems very mellow now.
