Maybe you feel it already, when the cap is removed and you put your nose to the bottle - this " Stout " smells different than what you are accustomed to. We have dry hopped this stout in the late stages of fermentation using the American noble varieties of Nugget , Centennial and Cascade, which allow the floral tones that make this a characteristic Stout - flavours of roasted malt give both lightness and freshness.
The glass appears Sundby Stout black , while the head is tight, light brown and almost cappuccino creamy, the tongue senses both malt sweetness, hints of bitter dark chocolate and English liquorice. Sweetness, however, cleverly balances the hard roasted malt and the split , umalted and roasted barley , which both help to give beer its roasted flavor. Sundby Stout is a classic " Stout ", which nonetheless dares to be different and challenge convention.

A soft nose of chocolate and mild coffee. This stout has a very clean balanced taste, featuring some earthy and floral hops, mild chocolate and coffee, and a slight touch of creaminess. A slightly thinner than expected consistency, the hop presence, and a clean dryness to the finish round out the taste profile. An easy drinking stout with a slight lean towards a black IPA.

Strong roast, notes of bitter cocoa, coffee, and some light vanila. Dry finish, low bitterness. Solid roasty notes, just an all around good stout.

Bottle from Deconinck. Hazy-clear dark brown, quickly thinning beige head. Aroma is rather subdued, cold coffe, earth, tree bark, chestnut, dried fig, prune, toast. Taste has sweetish maltiness of fig, nuts & mocha, bitter toast & coffee, bit earthy-umami. Toasty finish, dry & bitter, herbal hoppy with tobacco & nuts. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Not bad but feels thin and plain in the end.

Bottle from thewolf, thanks! Deep dark brown color. Opague. Strong malt and licorice aroma. Roasted, salty, malty flavor with licorice and a hint of cinnamon. Prickly mouthfeel. Very well balanced stout.

Bottle, 0.5l. Deep ruby pour, almost black. Floating yeast in the glass. Half finger beige head, low retention. Some lacing. Nose is malts, caramel and roasted, plum and raisins. Slight cocoa. Thin to medium body, soft carbonation. Medium texture. Roasty bittersweet taste. Aroma of caramel and roasted malts, herbs and spices. Slightly liquory. Woody notes. Touch of cocoa. Some grainy notes in the aftertaste. Medium bitter finish. Overall, ok. Decent aroma let down by somewhat watery body. Good but unspectacular.

50 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate creamy head. Aromas of nutty milk chocolate and dry roasted malts. Flavors of bitter dark chocolate, black coffee, dry licorice and lots of heavily roasted malts. Classic dry stout.

Bottle - Dark roast and very earthy with a touch of mushroom. Jet brown black with a rich beige head. Dark and roasty, touch of sweetness but a dry and light bitterness near the end. Solid, but nothing as different as it claims.
