Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is as its name suggests a chocolate and cherry beer. This beer is an ode to Belgian know-how. We are known and recognized for our delicious beers and exquisite chocolates. We had the crazy idea of mixing the two and making them a unique product.
Brewed only with real Belgian cherries (no flavor enhancers or cherry extracts). The fruit comes from the region of Sint-Truiden in Limburg (Belgium).
The base beer of the “Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is a red-brown from West Flanders with mixed fermentation. This beer has a high fermentation base and is then matured in oak casks where it undergoes a second wild fermentation. The tannins in the casks (very large barrel used for the storage of great Bordeaux wines) give Chocolate Duchesse Cherry its sweet, fruity, refreshing and bittersweet taste.
Once the base beer is ready, the master brewer adds 20 Kg of "Kriek Gorsem" (Belgian sour cherries) per 100 liters to the beer. For 6 months, the beer macerates with the cherries. The cherries give a fresh and fruity taste to the beer which has a sweet and sour base. After, we add cocoa to the beer which will soften (without going overboard) the beer and give it a chocolate aftertaste. the total process take 24 months.

Capped ~375 from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear ruddy amber with a significant but transient beige head. Aroma of cherry followed by a bit of chocolate. Dry and tart/sour. Flavor is cherry, astringent wood notes and a touch of chocolate. Nice.

Bottle from Foodery I think: pours brownish red with white head. Cherry, vinegar and a hint of chocolate. Acidic. Sour. Sweet. A bit decadent.

Bottle. Nose is balsamic, cherry, red berry, funky, brett, cherry pie, overlayed with milk chocolate. Taste is puckering sour, blasamic, raspberry, brett, funk, cheese, oak leading to cheap milk chocolate, lemon, green apple. Its a really nice beer, but the chocolate element does not work well.

Roodbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht friszuur en fruitig met overduidelijk iets van kersen en een vleug cocao. Heel goed.

14/VI/24 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 16/VI/22 (2024-389)
Clear red brown beer, creamy smooth yellowish to off-white head, unstable, falls down quickly. Aroma: lots of cocoa powder, dry, earthy, wood notes, sourish impression, lactic acid, a hint of vanilla, caramel, sweet impression. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very sour start, lots of chocolate notes indeed, milk chocolate, fake ersatz chocolate, fruity, red berries, some vinegar, a bit sweet, pretty oxidized. Aftertaste: some cardboard, oxidized (my bad, I know), sugary, very sour, a little bitter, fruity touch in the finish.

Bottle from Etre. Deep reddish brown with beige head. Tart cherries, dark cocoa, slight balsamico. Chocolate marries well with the original beer.

Aromas are an odd but decent combo of chocolate, vinegar, cherries, spice and floral. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose but not as good. It's regular Duchesse with some chocolate that clashes and the other stuff in the background. Not bad but I wouldn't get another one.
