Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse.
Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Huge yellow-beige head, big bubbled & irregular, fully resistant and leaving lace over virtually black beer. Nose bursting with exotic vegetables, herbs and fruit. Chocolate and chili peppers; promising fiery heat and complexity. Chocalte, burnt, CO³ acidity, dark fruit, coffee cream, Bitter-sweet-spicy and yet moderate heat in the mouth. Bit aldehyde-like - the cinnamon? Again dark fruit in the background, steeped in brandy. Very creamy head, spritzy liquid and velvety, full-bodied beer; warming. Simply excellent.

"The world has ended a long time ago, we are going backward."Jhonn Balance. Thx! to Niel sampled 375 ml. corked & caged LA bottle. Pours dark brown with little beige head. Nose is dark fruits, light chocolate, spices, sweet herbs, very light licorish,… Taste is overripe dark fruits, soaked raisins, clear booze, ferment dark fruits booze, red grapes, sweet, light chocolate, mellow malts, light vanilla oak, not really getting oak,.. Bit explosive carb. Not really getting chilli here,… A clear attempt to imitate the greats of the style, solid but far from the top.

Bottle enjoyed comfortably in my home, several months after the Mayan Apocalypse... good thing I kept paying the mortgage I guess. The cork nearly blew a hole in the roof, leading to a huge tan head after a ginger pour. Deep brown body. Nose is dark fruits and raison, the spices come through more as it reaches room temp. I enjoyed the base beer and it continues to be the mainstay. The cinnamon is the most noticeable spice, followed by the chilies. Not overly spicey, which I prefer (especially with a good base beer). Overall an enjoyable experience.

Bottle, 375ml corked. A big, dark beige head forms over a clear-looking chestnug colored body. Dark chocolate, dark berries, prunes, some caramel and alcohol. Some light funky hints. Lots of flavor foo, with dried fruits, vinous hints, chocolate and caramel. Some bitterness too, stretching into the very end. Lasting vinous finish, with dried fruits and some chocolate notes. The chilies well hidden all the way. Wonderful. 130420
