29/XI/13 - 33cl bottle from Bles Bierfestival 2013 (Zottegem) @ home - BB: XI/2014 (2013-1098)
Clear ruby red beer, big aery beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: metallic, caramel, some dried fruits, bit of orange peel. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bitter start, bit of caramel, metallic, grains, some citrus. Aftertaste: very bitter, grassy, some citrus, caramel, metallic, bitter dry ending. Not too bad. But definitely not a dubbel, by any standards!

33cL stubby bottle notched as 2009 on the side of the label. Brewed at De Graal. Picked up at Binny’s in Chicago, probably sat on the self this whole time. The beer pours with a medium head and a dark brown body into my Jolly Pumpkin & Maui Brewing Sobrehumano tulip. Aroma is very much Dubbel and the age has helped, imo. Sweet black bread with light plum ascents. So Belgian, so dubbel and nicely subdued by the age (btw, no cardboard coming through). Flavor is less aggressive but a more caraway and less sweet (and less plumy) black bread. Very nicely attenuated finish to the beer. Just a nice beer, nicely aged with no sigh of age. Medium-light with an effervescent finish. There are a lot of 12 Percent imports that I do not like so much but I really like this one.

Bottle @19de Internationale BierHappening, Zottegem.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, raisins, caramel, dark bread, red berries and a hint of liquorice. Malty, fruity, slightly toasted taste with notes of dark bread, caramel, raisins, wort, hints of chocolate and a spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with well balanced sweetness. Complex and quite nice.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours medium brown with a slight creamy beige head. Aroma is browned roast malt with leather or tobacco. Mediumbody; mild carbonation. Flavor is brown malt, herby hop, and tobacco notes. Astringent. Finishes dry, bitter, and even a little brown sugar to fight the dry. Good.

Bottle at Maxs. Chestnut amber-brown color. Nice and creamy, thick head. Doughy sweet brown malt aroma. Very yeasty, thick and smooth. Great mouthfeel, very pleasant to drink. Reminiscent of a good English Nut Brown, but Belgified. Great.
