English style barleywine aged in Angel’s Envy bourbon barrels. Brewed with enough Maris Otter pale, Aromatic and caramel malts to nearly overflow our mash tun. We then balanced this beer with some English Nugget and Kent Goldings hops. The resulting ale was sweet, nutty and powerful, but we didn’t stop there. The entire batch was put into used Angel’s Envy barrels for nearly 3 months to gather the residual bourbon flavor and some aromatic and drying oak notes. By the way, Balling is a measurement of specific gravity.

Short rerate from 500ml can. Way better than the first time I tried it. Malts, some alcohol, raisins, dark fruits. Decent enough barley wine this time. -- Bottle @ ZZT XII. Clear amber color, small white to off-white head. Aroma is malts, vegetal. Taste malts, sweetness, slightly vegetal, overripe fruits, quite bitter finish. Decent body and carbonation. but I don’t like it. Bleh. Original rating: 4-3-6-3-11=2.7

Bottle split at the 42nd floor Tasting, thanks to Kenny, 08/10/15. Orange amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is toffee fudge, bitter orange, light spice, caramel, bread pudding. Taste comprises rich fruit cake, subtle bourbon barrel, caramel, light spice, fruit rinds. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Solid barley wine, lots of depth to the flavour and a good balance.

Bottle at the sky high Canary wharf tasting. Many thanks to Kenny for this one. Hazed reddy amber coloured pour with a lasting halo of of white head. Aroma is solvent, chewy toffee, caramel, vanilla and oak. Flavour is vanilla, oak, caramel, jammy fruit, oak, boozy, good stuff. Palate is medium, edit sweet, rounded malts, moderate carbonation. Little tangy wood.

Bouteille 355ml. Ambrée, col léger blanc-cassé mais peu tenace. Arôme offre pas mal de Bourbon, note fine de pomme caramélisée, sucré résiduelle avec un léger rétro de fruits noirs. Petite pointe de vanille en rétro. Palais met de suite l’accent sur les quasi 11% de cette bière. Retrouve un Bourbon généreux apportant une finesse niveau de vanille. Sucre résiduel avec une amertume légère qui perdure et trouvant sa place sur ce barley centré sur le Bourbon. Pétillant, le tout colle légèrement aux lèvres, caramel et grillé sur la fin avec cette petite note de chocolat perdurant.

Bottle thanks to Mr Kenny. Consumed at the 42nd floor tasting. It pours hazy deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, oily bourbon, fruit cake, oily, fatty, caramel and glace cherry. The taste is smooth, rich, sweet, caramel, toffee, fruit cake, warming alcohol, cherry cake, booze and chewy maltage. Medium -full body and moderate carbonation. I understand why people would love this for. For me in this particular mood it was a bit sweet and boozy. Decent anyhow.

Bottle shared. Pours very hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of brett (maybe infected?), caramel, toffee, bourbon/vanilla, sweet malt, oak and a little overripe dark fruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Kenny. Pours unclear amber with a creamy tan head. Rich bready malts in the nose, so,e butterscotch, toffee, marmalade. Medium to heavy sweet flavor, some booze, rich fruits, figs toffee, dates. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, more toffee, dates, alcohol, some vanilla, caramel. Mild earthy bitterness. Definitely rich and hearty, but very tasty and relatively drinkable.
