Bottle from Kisjes Slijterijen, Meppel. Aroma is caramel malt with soft but noticeable bittering noble hops, notes of toffee and cranberries. Flavour is medium sweet with a fine bitterness. Body is medium. Rather more pleasant than I expected.

Cranberry beer by Muifel, big thanks to Niek for this bottle! Thick and frothy, Brugse kant-like lacing, pale yellowish white, moussy and stable head on a clear pure and deep coppery amber coloured robe, misty and a bit more brownish with sediment. Aroma of toasted peanuts, dried cranberries or cranberry jam indeed, dry caramel, old chewing gum, autumn leaves, caramelised beet sugar, glazed beetroot, red apple peel, brown honey, pear, candied figs, ferrous spring water. Spritzy, sweet onset but not too cloying, cranberry sweetness rather than 'real cranberry' tartness with all the sour effects coming from sharp and somewhat numbing carbonation, side notes of red apple, candied cherry and fig; slender caramelly malt body with toasty and peanutty-bitterish edge, smooth, the bitter toasty aspect enhanced by leafy hops in the finish, ensuring a drying finish with powdery yeast notes and mild spicy phenols (clove), while the cranberry effect remains present, albeit in a decreasing way. Looks and tastes primarily like an old school 'spéciale belge', the cranberry element adding a dry fruitiness and mild spiciness which really makes the whole interesting and entertaining. Very 'autumny' in a sense so even if we are already in winter now, fit for a chilly evening and easily drinkable. Better than expected, to be frank.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Clear copper with a small white head. Caramel aroma with some cranberries. Sweet taste with a bitter finish. Because the quantity of the cranberries has been kept low the cranberries are not overpowering everything else, which is a good thing in my book.
