Backlog October 2013. Unclear orange body under a moderate sized off-white head. Mild fruity aroma with light smoked malt. Taste is sweet, light smoked malt with caramel and some fruitiness. Medium body. Feels a bit gentle and plain.

From tap at De Prael Groningen. Aroma is caramel malt with dried fruits, touch of berries, toffee. Sweet malt, pretty firm bitterness. Bit spicy, medium body. Nice.

Bottle 0,33ltr: Hazy orange/amber coloured brew with an fine spicy taste and hints of caramel and little bit sour start.

Draught, 7.7% as Doe Maar. Citric and caramelly aroma. Cloudy copper colour. Small stable creamy white head. The flavour is malty and quite bitter to begin with. At first it might seem citric, but it turns out to be sweetish with dried fruit notes and a fairly high but clean bitterness. Caramelly and fruity finish. Not what I would call scotch ale, but good.

On tap at De Prael, Groningen. Cloudy orange, off white head. Smoke, malty, weird somewhat harsh bitterness.

Not so “scotchy”... hazy and light amber. A bit muddled... decent beer overall but below avg for the style. De prael ams

Bottle. Amber color, hazy. Malt, caramel and licorice in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet flavor with caramel, licorice, cardemom. Spicy notes, even a hint of smoke. Some bitter orange notes. Spicy bitter aftertaste. Sticky mouthfeel. Tasty beer.

Atypique cette Scotch Ale, mais malheureusement pas dans le bons sens du terme. De Prael nous propose ici une bière très hétérogène dont il est difficile de comprendre l'idée directrice. Côté arômes, si la complexité est au rendez-vous, le cocktail manque d'homogénéité : céréales, fruits avec citron, pomme, poire, pêche avec une présence tourbée marquée tournant au fumé sur le final. Quelque peu particulier. Côté équilibre une légère acidité est troublante pour le genre et l'alcool à 7,7% est mal intégré. La présence en bouche et la longueur sont cependant bonnes. En verre, nous sommes sur un ambré clair légèrement voilé surmonté d'une mousse blanc cassé de 5 mm. Le nez est sur les céréales, une pointe de citron (présence d'acidité) et sur les fruits (pêche, pomme et poire principalement). L'attaque présente une acidité certaine qui la rend quelque peu agressive. Des arômes tourbés apparaissent également. En deuxième bouche, ce sont à la fois les arômes tourbés et l'alcool mal intégré qui s'expriment davantage. L'arrière bouche est même très marqué sur l'alcool. Le final, toujours en présence d'une petite acidité voit le tourbé tourner au fumé sur une alliance pas exceptionnelle. J'aimerais dire que cette bière est géniale...Mais je la trouve juste incompréhensible
