Hertog Jan Karakter is a true Dutch ale, made from the special Hertog Jan malts. Hertog Jan malts, a carefully selected prestige malt, consists of four different malts. This gives the beer a fruity taste with adult hits of bitter. Besides this, Hertog Jan Karakter has the full and warm color of copper.

Thanks a lot to Torsten & Daniel for this 0,30 l bottle. BB 16.12.2026. Clear dark red copper in the glass. One finger light tanned head. Looks good. Sweet malty aroma, hints of chewing gum. Taste is sweet malty, apple, some nuts. Thin texture. Soft bitterness. Okay.

From one Albert Heijn, in Amsterdam or Hoofdroop. Opening and discovering this bottle, two days ago, at Epalinges. A classical Belgian dubbel, easy to drink, smooth, malty, a pleasant flavour of toffee, fruity, a bit boozy,.

Weak and sugary with a lightly sour finish. Not a beer I will drink again. I much prefer the Lentebock, Dubbel and especially Grand Prestige from the same brewery.

Bottled, thx to Hrabren's Dutch friends, but it seems to have leaked or leaked at some point. Very dark amber body, traces of an off-white head. Big caramelly aroma, somewhat dusty, light banana. Simple, quite okay, maybe lost a bit with the leak, but still a pleasant beer.
