A barley wine is a sweet and heavy beer, usually with fruity characteristics. This impressive beer is brewed with oranges, which give it its full, fruity character, and is rounded off with a light hint of coriander.

Backlog August 2006. Unclear golden body with some floaters under an off-white head. Aroma is malty with dry fruits, spices and alcohol. Tatse is sweet and malty with dry fruits, but still feels quite refreshing, some spicy belgium yeast, some fruity acidity and warming alcohol. Fine body with pleasant aftertaste. Nice, tasty and surprisingly easy drinklable this one.

On tap at the brewpub. Deep orange with thin head. Nose is grains, fruits, booze and a touch of yeast. In taste it has the same notes with prominent, warming alcohol in the finish. Light to medium bodied (certainly lighter than I’d expected) with average carbo.

Apparently the last time I had this was in my pre-rating years.... Pours an orange body and a rough orange-y head which quickly recedes. Aroma's of fruit, fruit candies, sweet malts, toffee. Retronasal follows this mostly. Flavour is above moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied. Bitterness increases towards the finish, ending with a firm earthy bitterness.

On tap at Brouwerij de Prael, pours a hazy dark amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out caramel, some dried fruits, and bready malt - though it's not all that intense. Flavour is both bitter and malty, with bitter resinous hops, caramel, and some candied fruits. Pronounced bitterness on the finish to go along with subdued malty sweetness. Not particularly well-put-together, but it's decent.

Bottle. Orange, peach and flowers in the aroma. Sweetish taste with just a bit of sourness. Orange, alcohol, cherry, coreander, peach and pepper. Full bodied, well laced, peppery, fruity and strong beer. Tap, Cafe ’t Arendsnest Amsterdam. Malt, raspberry and a hint of smoke in the aroma. Sweet flavor with hints of smoke and medicine. Apricot. Some bitterness and a hint of sourness in the aftertaste. A taste bomb.

Sehr gut trinkbar!

F: thin, egg-white, quick gone. C: amber to coppery, hazy. A: malty, overripe fruity, caramel, dough, spicy, bit alcohol, bit orange peels. T: malty, orange peels, mellow fruity, caramel, bit herbal, bit buttery, coriander, candy sugar, full body, low carbonation, light oily mouthfeel, bit too simple yet enjoyable for me, 33cl bottle from Beerwulf webshop.
