A barley wine is a sweet and heavy beer, usually with fruity characteristics. This impressive beer is brewed with oranges, which give it its full, fruity character, and is rounded off with a light hint of coriander.

Draft - Caramel and sweet raisin with a touch of woody hop. Cloudy gold with a small white head. Raisin, some caramel and a woody light bitterness. Mellow and easy drinking for what it is.

12th July 2016: 330ml bottle at the monthly Shrewsbury Bottle Share meeting, cheers Simon. Poured a misty amber with a wispy, white head. This is a very sweet smelling and tasting brew, something I normally like, this however did not do it for me at all, decent alcohol kick in the palate but I thought it unbalanced and syrupy throughout.

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting at Chez Sophie, July 16, courtesy of Simon. Many thanks. Pours hazy orange, thin head. Aroma is syrupy, fruity. Taste is balanced, yeasty, not massively barley wine-y in character and rather drinkable for the strength. Nice.

Sampled from tap at the brewpub at 9.7% abv. Slightly hazy, golden amber with an off-white head. Sweetish, quite spicy and a little fruity aroma of caramel, honey, lots of clove and brown sugar. Sweet, slightly bitter and quite spicy taste of caramel, honey, brown sugar and lots of clove, followed by a rather long, moderately bitter, spicy and a little warming-alcoholic finish. Medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. More a Tripel than a Barleywine, other than that okay.
