12 oz bottle (first beer in a long tome from Albert Heijn...). Clear light golden color. White head, with a thin layer retention. Aroma’s: resinous, citrussy, some grain/malt. Citrus is a bit more upfront retronasal with light malty sweetness. Flavor is light to moderate bitter with a light malty sweetness. Medium bodied. Finishes with a pleasant moderate bitterness. Nice enough.

Bottle from Albert Heijn, Den Haag. Poured a crystal clear light amber with a thin broken white head with some bubbly lace. The aroma is grassy pine needle hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Hawaiian IPA, now for sale at the Albert Heijn supermarkets (if only because this brewery somehow cooperates with AB InBev for its distribution). Tightly cobweb-lacing, egg-white, irregular but dense and moussy, stable head over a clear, warm and pure golden blonde beer with quiet fizz; apparently filtered, as it remains clear even with the bottle completely emptied. Refreshing aroma of lemon blossom, lime zest, yellow grapefruit peel, lovely biscuit or even warm cake, bitter honey, lychee, some vague and not overly disturbing iron, limoncello, tulips, spruce, sweet curry spices, kumquat, dried mango. Crisp, lively onset, ’clean’ but effective and vivid fruitiness of passion fruit, green banana and lychee, sweetish and sourish in perfect balance, softish carbo, supple, lean, resinous and oily body gliding effortlessly over the tongue with a light bready malt sweetishness, connecting with a lovely hoppy finish, both very aromatic (retronasal citrus peel, flowers and some pine) and adequately bittering, long and drying, to the point where almost no malt sweetness comes through anymore, yet at the same time refraining from becoming overly harsh, more spicy, leafy and resinous, oily. This may not be that remarkable among the zillions of other IPAs in our modern world, but when I started studying beer fifteen years ago, I could never have dreamed of an American style IPA being for sale in a local supermarket and that by itself is a pleasant thing to establish. Elegant, quenching, crisp, with just the right amount of New World hops for fragrance and bitterness, albeit in a somewhat ’industrial’ form: this is much better than I expected. Nice find.

Really nice aroma of caramelised, juicy tropical fruits. It’s in the flavour too together with a touch of lime citrus. Has a balanced bitterness. It remains fresh and easy to drink. Sessionable.

355 ml. bottle @ home. Purchased at Albert Heijn. BBF 260117. Only faintly hazy oily yellow, creamy off-white head. Nose is big hop oil, very oil with little fruity qualities, bitter oily, harsh citrus peel, faint vegetable oil. Very oily taste, light vegetable oil, corn, sugar, starch, biscuit, oily citrus peel, faintly dank, cardboard. Massively oil. Huge hop oil, faintly vegetable profile but lacking in the typical fruity and/or floral etc. qualities one would expect from a beer with this much hop. Strange, not very satisfactory but partially passable. Odd, I can partially live with it.

Bottle from Albert Heijn. Clear golden with short lasting white head. Citrus peel, dried orange, tropical fruits, flowers, lots of bitter hops, light biscuits and crackers. Light sweet and over medium bitter. Medium bodied with a bit thin feel and nice matching carbonation. Nice IPA on the bitter side of things.

At home in the sun. Clear golden with white head. Fruity sweet, wheat, with light marijuana-eaque bitter. Under medium sweet with light bitter. Under medium body, very supple and because of the light bitterness easy drinkable. Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of citrus, light fruits, malt and a touch of cardboard. Flavour is above light sweet and above moderate bitter. Above light bodied with soft carbonation.
