Redhook’s flagship beer got its start as a winter seasonal recipe in the mid 80’s. In the early years, Extra Special Bitter earned a reputation as ‘banana beer’ and has been brewed continuously since 1987. ESB’s caramel malt sweetness and subtle spice and fruit hop flavors, quickly defined the style, becoming Seattle’s definitive craft beer and inspiring a new wave of craft beers across the country.

0.33l bottle @ Baran. This is a near clear deep golden one with a small soft lacing just off white top. On the nose it's really mild. I get some soft traces of thin caramel and grass. Not much more really. The carbonation is right below average and the mouthfeel is light oily. Nice flavors, slightly floral, some sweet red apples, a little bit of alcohol and some artificial pear. Easy drinking and a fair ESB. No hooray though.. 22.02.2013

12oz bottle from Wegman’s, King of Prussia, PA. An amber pour with a fast fading white head and light carbonation; caramel aroma; and a smooth caramel and toasted malt flavour; then a sweetish finish with some slightly spritzy hops. Not too bad, but nothing like my favourite English ESBs.
