11.2oz stopper-topped shorty bottle. I hold Christoffel in high regard so I am very hyped to try this bottle. Pours a deep chocolaty brown color. The aroma is rich and chocolaty as well, with a touch of bocky yeast. Lots of dark fruity flavors, but doesn’t really strike me as being fresh. The rich malty thickness certainly lets you know this is high quality stuff. Light carbonation. Bare minimal hopping to keep it crisp in the initial mouthfeel, which quickly fades into malt sweetness. I deeply suspect that this beer is awesome in a fresh state, but in the bottled state I had it, it’s a little of a let down.

[33cl swing top bottle, as Winterse Bok, 7.8% abv] Slightly hazy, opaque colour with a medium-sized beige frothy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with toffee, licorice, subtle fruity notes and a delicate touch of grassy and herbal hops. Sweet flavour, full bodied and slightly fizzy on the tongue. Robust toast-malty base with caramel, licorice and a subtle touch of raisins. Little bitterness and a shy hops character become more pronounced towards the sweet and malt-accented finish with an alcoholic touch that cannot be hidden anymore. Not a great, but likeable Dubblebock [12.I.09].

Bottled, bought at Mitra. Dark color, short head. Aroma of roasted malt, some coffee, bit licorice. Bit stronger in taste than the average Dutch bock. Quite ok.

PINT bokbier 2005: Clear light brownish color, short off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt. Quite sweet taste, bit caramel malty, slightly bitter. Ok bock, but it lacks complexity.

A hazy dark brown ale with a rich onctuous moka head. A pleasant estery fruity aroma, light solvents, and plums and banana. In mouth, a rich and smooth bock with licorice, candy sugar, hops. Very nice. 2 L growler from LCBO, shared at Dumdum x-mas party.

Bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Very dark amber brown color with a minimal beige head. Aroma of dark carmel plus something that seems spicy. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is brown. What can I say. There’s malt, hop, dark fruit. But it tastes brown. It’ like Westy 12, but down several levels. Still, there is a confluence of flavor between the two. This is very good stuff, but not the greatest stuff.
