Zambezi Lager was traditionally positioned as the “tourists brand” since its launch in 1992 but given the decline in the tourism industry over the years this positioning lost relevance, and inevitably the brand was alienated from the local consumer.

330ml can, a gift from Amanda (she lives across the road), drank at home on 30th June 2025. Poured into my old Konig Pilsner glass mid afternoon on the hottest day of the year so far in Shropshire. Pale golden body, clean and clear, fast fading white affair on top. Corny cardboard flavour, corny aroma.

Old rating from 1996 - One of a number of bottles I drank on my trip, enjoyably on one memorable occasion on a evening sunset cruise above the falls. Pours pale golden with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of flora, dough, grain & sugar malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish.

Green bottle and the beer have an clear golden looks. Sweet of taste with some dull bitterness. When opening it that savannagrasa aroma. Old paper ratings before Ratebeer, so why not rate them in hindsight.

Can, courtesy of my parents. Pours pale gold. Grain, corn, lightly sweet, little floral. Medium body. Fairly solid.

Can from explosivedog: pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma is sugary, light grain. Taste is pretty sweet. Not bitter or grainy. Not terrible.

Huge thanks YantarCoast for that one. Appearance: Clear gold, moderate off-white airy head of low retention. Aroma: pale malt, bread, minerals. Taste: Light sweet. Low bitterness. Old pale malt. bread, minerals, grass. Hoppy aftertaste. Mouth feel: Light to medium body, average to lively carbonation. Summary: Could have been worse.
