Dit bier van hoge gisting werd gebrouwen als eerbetoon aan de wereldberoemde Dr. Yperman, een Ieperse chirurg uit de 14de eeuw. Ondertussen is zelfs het gereputeerde medisch centrum van Ieper naar hem vernoemd. Deze licht rode amber pale ale wordt bekroond door een smalle romige schuimkraag.
Voor het proeven wordt het licht fruitig aroma van de aanwezige kruiden waargenomen. Bij de eerste slok komt vooral de lichtzoete toets met een moutig karakter en een lichte karamelsmaak naar voor, gevolgd door een hint van zachte hoppe en kruidige mout. De nadronk behoudt zijn licht bittere toets, maar eindigt met een zachte kruidensmaak.

Clear medium amber colour, small frothy beige head, diminishing quickly, minimal lacing. Aroma sweet malt, caramel, toasted, light alcohol notes. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, light toffee, light spicy notes, rather thin mouthfeel. Aftertaste sweetbitter, finishes with a light malty roastiness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Oldskool pale ale, I have a weak spot for this kind of traditional Belgian ales.

Bottle shared. Really nice label with a drawing of a cat wearing a crown, winking, holding a beer (I assume this one) and brushing itself up again a Belgian church spire. Solid. The beer itself is a clear amber brown with a small off white head. Aroma of cardboard. Boring. I feel cheated after the promise showed by the label, hoping for so much but delivering so little.

Klare dunkel orange goldene Farbe, mittelgroße leicht beige Schaumkrone. Geruch süß malzig, Karamell, leicht hopfig. Geschmack getreidig malzig, süß, wenig hopfig, langweilig.

tastes like crap, lousy beer. Don’t try it, even if it is being offered for free. Sweet smell, bad grain, bland finish - no bitterness, no acidity, no sourness, nothing.

Pours bit unclear blonde towards amber. Small white head. Smell is grainy , but not superfresh. Taste is sweet, sticky malts. Some mild honey-aspects. Damn this does not taste refreshing. Hmm....

25cl, best before 06.15. Alcoholic sweetish beginning. Grainy-mouldy, dry. Herbal medicine, not too smooth, bitter-neutral. Strange. Quite bitter, smooth, unround.

Tasted at 3 years of age. Very old-fashioned like all of their brews, a session beer with pretty copper colour and thin head. Malty profile, some fruitiness, sweetish and caramelly, rather thin body with medium hop bitterness in the end. Superfluous, yet sympathetic and quenching. Belgian beer is not always about opulence and complexity and I applaud the fact that there is still room for this type of straightforward, simple yet well-made beers.
