Thatchers Gold is a refreshing medium dry cider. It’s blended from classic west country apple varieties like the bittersweet Dabinett and Harry Masters Jersey.

On 23rd Jan 2020 I decided to change all my 34 'ticks' for no-beers into rates. Every 'tick' scored a '3', this will not change as they become 'rates'. My 'ticks' were Ciders, Meads, Perrys and Sake. This is a cider!

Bottle sampled from Cider Cider. Clear golden with short lasting white head. Dry apple, soft sugar too but it’s somehow underneath the apple, dry apple peel, light earthy and mineral. Under medium sweet and bitter. Over light bodied. Ok.

Bottle, small stable bubbly head, clear yellow color, aroma and flavor of apple and spiciness with a lingering fruitiness behind. Not too sweet , lightish bitterness. Nice and simple.

Keg from the Union, Aylestone. Light golden with lots of carbonation and a filmy white head. Not a lot of apples in the scent, it smells more like water with a low concentration of bleach. A pleasant refreshing sweetness in the taste is tempered by a sour/bitter bite. Heavily carbonated. Not the most engaging of ciders.

Can at our work quiz. Gold in hue with a light fizz, verging on flat. Sweetish from the off. Economy apple juice with a little rotten apple and vomit in the background. Very light dryness in the finish, but mainly sweet. Not a great cider per se, but on the other hand it’s better than the Magners or Bulmers against which it’s clearly being pitched.

On keg at the Standing Order. Appearance - golden with steady carbonation and a thin bit if suds on top. Nose - sweet apples and straw. Taste - more hay and sweet apple notes. Palate - light to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long tangy finish. Overall - not the worst but prefer less sweetness.
