CBC and our fellow islanders at Maui Brewing Co. are bridging the distance from Hawaii to the mainland with big flavor, camaraderie and generosity. This Centennial, Chinook and Nugget-stoked IPA, made floral with the addition of hibiscus flower, is the first of an annual series of collaborative beers benefiting local charities. This time around, a donation will be made to “Beer For Boobs”, a Susan G. Komen 3-Day team formed by San Diego company White Labs, who contributed the yeast for this brew. No matter which side of the Pacific you’re on, there’s no better reason to “Drink Pink!”

Keg at Cornado brewpub, Coronado Island, SD 20/04/14. Clear amber with a moderate off white covering that retains well. Nose is caramel malt, bitter orange, light spice, floral hops, perfumed notes. Taste comprises orange pith, caramel malt, pinch of spice, herbal notes, red grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a lingering hop bitterness. Decent enough floral driven IPA.

Hazy amber beer, good white head. Palate is light, dry and minerally crisp. Light airy malt. There is a nice tangy fruit sherbet zing here, it really tantalises the tongue! Hibiscus fruits balance nicely with mildly skunky hops. Little pine. Finishes soft and semi dry with more sherbet zing. Love the sherbet! Light and very refreshing.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent copper with a foamy white head. Aroma is very citrus/floral. Hint of caramel. Med body or better. Flavor starts somewhat earthy, moves on to spicy, then maybe some citrus. I can imagine Hibiscus - cause there is a perfumey/floral note. It’s dry, bitter and a real mouth grabber. All this at only 4.9%? Mirabile dictu!
