Can pour into shaker pint glass from Andover Liquors. Aroma is bready malt with mild roast and vanilla, cocoa. Appearance is clear, dark mahogany with tons of sparkle, finger-width foamy light brown head with fair retention and nice lacing. Taste is as aroma with addition of mild nuts, brown sugar and dark fruit. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and finish as is taste. Overall, a nice brown ale.

Can. A- Iron, malty, roasty. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Malty, roasty, leather, cocoa. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, dry roasty finish. O- Didn’t get any vanilla. Wished I had. Otherwise a standard brown ale. BIt of nuttiness to it, but otherwise pretty average by all means.

American style brown ale with a dog on the label which I suppose represents Ellie... Medium sized, pale greyish beige, moussy head gradually thinning, but leaving a greyish veil over the whole surface in the end; dark but translucent burgundy colour with copper red hue, initially clear but misty with deposit. Aroma of toffee, some FFF (manure), unfortunate DMS (cooked cabbage), elderberry, dry earth, hazelnut paste, cherry pits, accents of nutmeg, old brownies, raisins, vague black pepper. Subdued ’dried fruit sweetishness’ in the onset, dried fig, subtle blackberry sourishness underneath, very soft carbo (in fact a bit undercarbonated for the style, near flat but still tingling a little bit here and there); rounded, ’clean’ malt body, slick and a tad oily, caramelly and notably nutty with a bitterish toasted edge towards the end, reinforced with a leafy, lightly peppery hop bitter touch at the back, floral and a bit herbal retronasally, nicely drying and well in balance with the malts, which leave a light caramelly sweetness all the way at the back without anything cloying. Lightly malty and simple with high drinkability, as expected from the style, but a bit too thin in body even for a beer of this ABV; quite alright, too bad for the DMS in the nose, which I absolutely hate. Tastes a lot better than it smells, but even in the mouth, there is nothing to set this apart from the many other American brown ales available on the market. Well intended but not a great success in my opinion, the DMS made it less pleasant than it could have been. Expected more from this well-known Colorado brewery.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/16/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down that glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, light vanilla/dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, light vanilla/dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, light vanilla/dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a great bitter/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/silky, and slightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is an outstanding English brown ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

12 ounce can. Mahogany brown with a small beige head. Roasted malt nose has nutty notes. Flavor is toasted malt, light cocoa, toasted pecans and brown sugar. Thin body and flavor. A bit like Newcastle Brown, but not as buttery. Overall, a decent brown ale, but could have used a little more body.

Have had his many times, but somehow never rated it. Draft pour pint at Frankies. Pours dark brown with a tan swirl head. Small roast aroma. Flavor is milk chocolate, roasted malt,and sweet caramel. Pretty good brown here.

Can from Mitsuya. Drank straight from the can. Brown sugar, caramel with a light hint of hazelnut. Taste is malt forward with leaning pretty strongly on the sweet side for the style.
