San Miguel Spain in Málaga, Andalusia, Spain 🇪🇸

  Lager - Pale Regular
Score
4.55
ABV: 5.4% IBU: 18 Ticks: 186
San Miguel is a pilsner-style lager, golden yellow in colour with reflections of old gold. On the nose it offers hints of smoke against a background of grains. On the palate it is balanced, toasted, of medium bitterness with a prevailing subtle toasting of the barley. The medium persistence aftertaste holds echoes of liquorice.

In 1890 a group of fearless and intrepid Spaniards sailed to Manila in the Philippines on their quest to establish the first brewery in South East Asia. The brewery was located in the St Miguel district of Manila and the first brew created on St Michael’s day. San Miguel became the most fitting name to bestow on the new beer.

The pioneering spirit of the founders meant that the journey continued as San Miguel travelled across Asia and eventually reached Spain in 1954. San Miguel’s quest for seeking out experiences has taken it to many new destinations and it is now sold in over 45 countries worldwide. An international success story with an experience seeking spirit.

How can one visit Andalucía and not sample San Mig. Not the best beer in Spain but an iconic brand. If you have ever flown from Malaga Airport you cannot miss the adjacent massive brewery, a cathedral to beer. For the purposes of this review I had a couple of bottles while listening to an excellent trio at the Ventana Abierta jazz club in Nerja.

33 cl can, Spanish version, 5.4 % abv. Clear golden colour with a thin white head. Sweet aroma with pale malts, grasses, dough, and floral hoppy notes. The taste is light bitter. Medium body. Drying finish. Macro lager, with more pronounced bitterness and flavour, especially compared with the UK version.

Сводный брат балтики тройки в Испании. Никакого запаха солода как и аромата хмеля тут не найдешь.Абсолютно посредственный напиток для работяг Испанцев которые ничего в пиве не понимают.

Managed to get hold of the European version - thanks Ade. Clear gold with thin white head., Aroma of corn and bready malt with a hint of grassy hop. Taste again has that sweetcorn and bread. There is some grass and pepper that comes from the hop. Its been a while since I had a macro lager and it reminds me why I drink ales and craft beer. This one at least has some hopping and is not syrupy in the body.

Purchased in a small bodega in Barcelona, March, 2024. Very light, well carbonated but low flavor and aroma. Nothing wrong with it but just a pale lager. Purchased Supermercado El Corte Ingles.
