The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

botle at the beer bistro.
Huge arma of ripe fruits, loads of plums, figs, apples, and a boat load of sweet sugars, and sweet bready malts. This is just a sugar bomb, really not much balance. A real sipper. the booze comes through in the finish, and really attacks along with the cloying swetness. Not a bad beer if you are looking for something to sip for desert, but it doesnt even come close to a real quad.

Discount can from Sterk, so probably a few years old. Pours a dark reddish brown colour and a rocky off white heat with fair retention. Aroma's: sweetish, sweet berries, lightly oxidized. Retronasalit's caramel, sweet fruit, raisins, with a bit umami maybe. Flavour is moderate sweet, malty. Prickly alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Long finish, light bitterness.

Bottle. orange color. Raisin and some grassy hops in the vinous aroma. Malty sweet, honeyish raisinny vinous flavor. Hardly a sign of alcohol. Deceivingly soft beer.

Bottle from 2009, like from 10 years ago. Slightly cloudy amber pour, some white bubbles there. Apple jam nose, sweet povidlo and light toasted sweet Belgian candies in the nose. Tastes sweet, Belgian candies, light herbal edge. Really great balance, alcohol not really coming out before the finish (where it presents itself as light warming tingle). Nicely mellowed out, probably much thinner and drier body compared with fresher versions. Nice one, thank you FatPhil.
