The best of British beer is the malt body and that beautiful malt balance. And the best thing about American beer is the citrus, piney hops. So we’ve taken those two aspects, put them together and come up with a beer you can actually drink a few of -- 6% ABV you can drink all night long.

16 oz can from Boise Co-op. Medium golden with small fluffy head. Aroma is dull, malts, paper. Taste turns things around with some sharp bitterness. Minor malts. One sided IPA, really bitter.

16 ounce can. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. A light grainy nose. Sweet, bready, light citrus and perfume. Smooth. Mild bitter bite. Flavorful, light. Enjoyable. Would love to see this on cask.

I admit, the smell was somehow off-putting at first, perhaps too much pine or tropical fruit from the hops. Perhaps some funk in the can's headspace after a hot ride from UPS. But that cleared off to leave a nice hoppy nose, mostly of guava and mango. The taste has a similar tropical fruit hop to it, with the resin more to the background. Malts have a very light toast, but are present in enough quantity to match up with the hops. This ends up as a decent pale ale, more of an APA than a British IPA. And as a celebrity endorsed beer, it certainly stands up better than, say, a Landshark Lager or something called “Badass.” I wish I could make a snarky remark about ”Billy” beer, but I was just slightly too young to take that bullet.

Bottle/Fest. A- Malty, citrus, pine. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Caramel, malty, bland. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bland finish. O- Thought this was a tribute to the band but perhaps not. More hop presence on the nose than tongue which seemed odd. Pretty watery. Not good.

Draft at Rock & Brews. Pours slightly hazy burnt orange color with off white head. Aromas of malt, citrus, and pine. Similar flavors but more malty than I prefer. Medium body with average carbonation.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/1/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, bread dough, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nuttiness, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity hops and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, bread dough, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nuttiness, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine, zesty, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, bread dough, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity hops and bready malt flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance; and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a delicious American pale ale! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish, great soft feel. Definitely a lot of Cascade/Amarillo hop notes going on. Awesome balance of juicy hops and bready English malts, with mild lingering sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
