IPA Brewed with Rye

Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.

Beautiful brownish copper color with substantial frothy tanish head. Aromas are sweet and floral with a bit of sharp hops. Flavor is well balanced, mixing back and forth between sweet caramel flavors and crisp floral hops. Excellent brew again from Founders.

Poured into a trappist glass. Varieted head -- large and small bubbles. Very slight malty nose. Murky red with floating yeast. Malty on first sip, hoppy on second with a rye, bitter finish. Fizzy and rather well balanced.

Dark amber with chunks. Big aroma - floral, slightly raspberry, baked apples and spicy rye notes. Funky flavour is spicy and flowery with great brown sugar malt notes. Light plastic noted. Crazy rye and dark malt flavours meld well with the floral hop notes. This is a really unique beer, delicious.

A hazy red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is caramelic and very hoppy. The flavor is sweet with lots of caramel, and also quite a lot of hops giving it notes of grass, but it also contains notes of cowberries, and it has a dry end.

Bottle Pours a slightly hazy dark redish copper color witha thin but lasting off white head. Chunky sticky lacing. Rather sweet fruity aroma like the fruit cocktail I remember at school luches as a kid. But with a nice hoppy slant as well. Flavor is more of a woody bitter hops and the ABV is noticeable as well. Dry hopping really brings it to the front. Pretty strong. Thanks to Ohiodad for this one

The hops in this beer are forward, but not overwhelming. Aroma of hops, grapefruit, malt, citrus, rye. Taste starts with hop bitterness with a smooth follow-through. Slightly sweet. Comfortable palate. Overall, a refreshing, tasty beer.

Bottled. U.S. Beer #15 of 31 for American Beer Month! Open up and there’s the nice, spicy smell of an American wheat. Pours a deep amber color under a rocky, lacy head. Taste is the same light spiciness and soft malts of the few rye beers I’ve been able to enjoy. A northwestern hop smack adds to the enjoyment. I may be rating this pretty high, but frankly it’s hard to find any fault with this little brew. Nice sticky hoppiness left on the lips, too.

Dark red/burnt copper with clinging white lace - woody aroma, with pungent hops and background of freshly brewed tea and herbs - very hoppy and grainy - like a very malty IPA - herbs and grassiness - a solid ale no matter how you slice it (whatever that means).

Pour is a deep red with a big white head. Aroma is truly wonderful. Its a spicy, hop and piney goodness that will leave you asking for more. Flavor is lots of piney and citrus hops with a dose of malts hits you at the end. A wonderful beer experience. Founders is bar none my favorite brewer in the world.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jan 14th, 2005: Two beers in a row that exceeded expectations. This beer is a light amber color with a medium thin off-white head and minimal lacing. Rye is prevalent in the nose, along with some hops and caramel. Medium-bodied with a blast of citrus and floral hops flavor. Rye and grain is much more understated than in the aroma and it works well. The finish is lightly sweet with a touch of spice. Well-done.
