Seaweed Ale

Prior to the 1850's Scottish coastal alehouses brewed with malted barley, grown in fields fertilised by seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we recreate by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. A rich dark chocolate ale, which has the aroma of a fresh Scottish sea breeze and a distinctive malty texture.

Caoba, casi negra. Espuma ocre cremosa tipo guinness. Aroma a bizcocho, café, chocolate,... Notable.

Pours dark amber with green shades. Rapidly disappearing ivory head. Aroma is rich espresso coffee. Seaweed not noticeable. Fresh and light, with intense flavor of coffee beans.

500 ml bottle shared by Wilrunforbeer in a cellar clean out afternoon. Dark brown color thin white head, no lace or retention at all. Aroma is light roasted malt, caramel and hints of ash. The flavor shows me ash, old malts, light vegetal with a light hint of salt in the finish. The body is thin but maybe that is a good thing for this. The finish has a mild off putting vegetal note in a porter like brew. On the strange side for sure.

Bottle. Aroma sweetish, caramel, toasted, toffee. Clear darker ruby brown colour. Taste is caramel driven as well, but well balanced, also light chocolate/roasted notes. Lightly salty. Good one.
