Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts.

Pours a very slightly reddish brown from a bottle, off-white head leaves some lacing. Aroma is a bready toffee. Flavor is like bread dough with some caramel, rather watery, a little metallic although that’s fading as I drink it. Good beer.

Gyönyörű mahagóni szín, közepes, nem túl tartós hab. Illata édeskés, aszalt gyümölcsös, diós. Íze édeskés, karamelles, pici kakaóval és aszalt gyümölcsökkel. Icipici keserű, alacsony karbonáció, közepes test, jó összhang.

330ml bottle at home. A classic for every occasion. Nice brown colour with little foam with a bready and very biscuity aroma. Some caramel and maybe some chocolate. Quite thick mouthfeel. Flavour is quite complex, very biscuity and lots of caramel, chocolate and a hint of herbal hops. Great classic.

Clear deep amber brown colour, tall thick frothy tan head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma roasted malts, caramel, dried dark fruits, molasses, nutty notes. Taste light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, butterscotch, nutty notes, with average to long duration. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter finish with gradually more bitterness developing. Good traditional ale.

Bottle. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, brown bread and dried leaves. Flavour of tea, salted caramel, nuts and a hint of soy sauce. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Light fizz. Impressive balance and complexity. I’d love to try this on cask.
