Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een amberkleurig bier met een beige schuimkraag. Het heeft een zachte zoete smaak, beetje toffee achtig.

A Dutch ’edelbier’ hovering between a Belgian strong blonde and a Belgian strong dark. Moussy, pale greyish beige, fairly stable head leaving a pretty, dustweb-shaped lacing after a while; colour a deep orangey copper, fully transparent and clear, with vivid sparkling. Sweet and malty aroma of honey, butterscotch, coriander seed, clear pasteurisation, cookie dough, banana liqueur, toasted bread, candied orange, lots of brown sugar, cognac, weaker hints of sweet cherry candy, liquorice, iced tea, rotting grass and some unmistakable ’damp cloth’, plus a faint hint of onsetting oxidation - this bottle is not as fresh as expected, apparently. Sweet onset, honeyishly sugary, candied fruit, raisins, some red apple peel astringency, fairly full and softish mouthfeel, slightly metallic with medium carbo; resiny, bittersweetish coriander is obvious, as is a bourbon- or brandy-like alcohol presence which already becomes a bit wry on the tongue before swallowing. Underneath, there is a straightforwardly caramelly and smoothly toasted maltiness. Finish is lingering candied or honeyish sweetness, a little bit cloying, lingering caramelly malts, some herbal hop bitterness for balance without becoming truly bittering and the expected fair dose of brandy-like alcohol, not just warming, but actually burning a bit; the coriander provides a certain amount of resiny ’drought’. Too alcoholic, too artificially sweet and could do with some more body (actually refermenting it in the bottle would already prove helpful!), this is not a very subtle beer, but still enjoyable alright if you like your ’Belgians’ sweet and big on alcohol.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 1 March 2014) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins and a touch of marzipan. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, candy sugar, caramel and a fairly sweet finish with a light bitterness. More than medium body, sweet. Possibly a touch too sweet and not overly complex, but quite enjoyable.
