This stout looks like soft dookie and some will say it smells and tastes like it too. If you like a thick, creamy and utterly vanillalicious stout you’ll like this one. If you don’t, get yourself something else instead.

(Bottle) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, strong black coffee, dark chocolate, black rye bread, vanilla, a touch of tar and soy sauce. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, liquorice, cacao, vanilla, black rye bread, soy sauce, hints of strawberries and a generous roasty coffee bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite roasty and powerful, still in very good balance. Very nice.

Draught at Craft. Dark brown creamy colour with small golden head. Beautifully sweet and chocolatey, thick and creamy, vanilla and all sorts of sweet stuff. Bit roasty. Should have made more notes but was too busy just enjoying it. Lovely.

Nice light brown slightly bubbly-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish mineraly, dark sugar, vanilla, lactose, dark malts, minerals, chocolate, bark, hay, toast, grass, caramel, hints of sour coffee. Taste is slightly sweet mineraly, weeds, lactose, harsh vanilla, minerals, bark, dark malts, dark sugar, hay, toast, paper, chocolate, hints of sour coffee. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly watery and harsh mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough, probably quite over the top...

Dark brown coloured body with a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of licorice, roasted malt, burnt coffee, pit fruits, caramel and a dash of grain and earth - not too much pleasant here, though. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours with a bunch of burnt notes, some earth, caramelised sugars, grain and a bit of anise flavours; Nothing too strong and too enjoyable, and definitely nothing complex here. Aftertaste shows a bit of alcohol warmth, a very thin malt finish (no body here), a little anise and licorice and a dash of yeast and bread funk at the end. Overall, a decent, if that, Imperial Stout with no complexity, no depth and most importantly - no body. Definitely not worth grabbing and if you do have it, it's not worth keeping space in your cellar for. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street NorthWest) on 25-May-2015 just after my second daughter was born, sampled about two and a half years later on 18-November-2017 after my son was born, and the aging of this didn't seem to help at all, but at least the alcohol burn wasn't there, but there wasn't much of anything, especially body leftover.
