The Commodore came out of our search for a medium-bodied American Stout. The recipe began at our R&D pilot brewery, but quickly became a favorite of our crew. Strong flavors of roast coffee and bittersweet chocolate balance with light citrusy hop aromas, highlighted by a crisp, bitter finish. One sip of this gold medal-winning stout will have you ready to take command of your own fleet.

Bottle. Pretty much black with a tan head. 3+ Aroma of roasted malt, blackstrap licorice. Really rather sweet with roast and an ashy touch as well as bitterness reigning it in a bit. It is dryish at the end but indecisively sweet at first. There's some light and slightly earthy coffee too, which is nice. Not bad.

Ah, a good old fashioned medium gravity stout. By old fashioned I mean the kinds of beers common among US micros in the late 90s that have become somewhat rare in the age of imperialized over-hopped barrel aged everything. Anyway, it’s a damn good stout. Strong roasted malts, coffee notes, bit of bitter chocolate, balanced with a surefire herbal hop bittering at the end. Dark black but not quite opaque. Good.

355ml bottle. Jet black colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, slightly interference of burnt grain, spelt and fodder. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, an ashy touch, well integrated bitter hop notes contribute to an impression of oil, tar and salty liquorice; lasting, minimally sticky finish.
