Bottle at Cool Beer Craft as Aka Oni. Malty, little hint of fruit, strawberry. Bit of caramel. Nice but quite unremarkable. Soft.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a light reddish brown with a small half-finger head. Malt forward nose with some caramel and fruity esters. Light body with light carbonation. Some light yeast-like pepper on the finish. Pretty boring and one-dimensional amber that drinks like malty water. Body is way too thin. --- Beer merged from original tick of Red Ale on 19 Dec 2015 at 19:57 - Score: 5

Can from Isetanβs Hokkaido Fair. It is a deep reddish brown with an enticing malty aroma that gives stone fruits, peach, chocolate - kind of reminds me of a Fruit & Nuts Cadbury I had the other day. Medium-light bodied with a slightly raspy mouthfeel. The taste is pretty good sweet dark bready caramel and fruits. Pretty good.

Can from Yamaoka in Kyoto. The Full name is Oni Densetsu (Legend of the Demon) Red Ale. Pours a deep amber with a 1-finger head that quickly goes to lace. Aroma of earthy amber malts and hops, caramel, and a touch of dark chocolate. Flavor similar but with a good bit of fruits and more chocolate. Fruity, somewhat sour and bitter finish as well. A decent Amber. Not really special, but good juicy malts and nicely balanced. To theisti: If you got a can that smelled like dirt and garbage, best guess is that it was spoiled! It’s not pasteurized.

12 oz. can brought back from Japan and generously shared by hogfodder with myself and after4ever on 3/20/08. Pour is amber - brown with no head. Aroma of wet dirt and garbage pretty bad. Taste is the nose plus some over ripe fruitiness. Rough finish.
