Large sample on 14th July 2014 in The Clay Oven, Irvine Orange County during a beer and Indian food night. Poured a deep, clear amber with copper highlights, the head a tanned affair. Grapefruit aromas with sweeter citrus notes also there, some maltiness too. The taste was also citrus in nature and again the grapefruit type content came through the most, tempered by the malts to produce a good, well balanced beer. A blend that I enjoyed, pity I only got one sample to try.

Dark copper coloured body with a hint of a deep amber and orange glow with a two centimetre thick tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pine, resin, earth, caramel, malt and a decent amount of grapefruit. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy, herbal, piney and resinous hop flavours with a little woodsy and herbal notes more than the others near the end. Aftertaste shows a good blend of malt and hops, some alcohol and a very dry, herbal taste at the end, all with some caramel sweetness, but this is all about the hops. Overall,a good and rather earthy, floral and bitter IPA with a lot of caramel malt noticeable. Cool to try and a different take on the style, especially being in Southern California, I was surprised and happy to see a non-Southern California IPA! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from City Liqour House in San Diego, California on 08-June-2013 for US$5.99 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of this great land on 07-October-2013.

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark copper with a slight yellow/beige head. Aroma of toasted malt and fruity hop. Full bodied. Frothy carb. Flavor is pine/citrus/earth with a roast malt backdrop. This is a very nicely done ale.

Sample at Pizza Port San Clemente. Hazy amber-golden color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is citrusy with some hop and malt notes. Medium body with a moderately bitter citrus hops character and notes of bready malt and a touch of pine. The finish is hoppy with a short grapefruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Imbibe Wine. Nose is citrus, ivy, and pine. Hazy amber with a medium, lightly lacing beige head. Flavor is bitter, pine, with a small bit of caramel. An excellent hop forward IPA.

On tap at Naja’s. Hazy golden-amber. Earthy, woody aroma with a little bit of caramel. Accented towards the richer caramel side of things (as IPAs go), with a light cedary hop accent. Not bright enough for my taste.

On tap. Pours with a hazed golden body and an off-white head. Aromas of orange, grass and tropical fruit. Flavors are lightly hoppy, caramel, fruit, citrus, tropical fruits. A bit on the malty side for me. East Coast balance. Lively bubbles.
