Bottle. Pours a dark amber... almost brown with a little head and aggressive aromas of toffee, pineapple and grapefruit. Flavor is pretty decent. Much as you might expect from an IIPA with a bunch of rye in it. Alcohol is pretty obvious, both in flavor and in warmth.

Just drank another 22 oz one of these, and thought I'd update the ranking, I believe it was purchased at a Total Wine.
Aroma: A nice pine, citrus, rye, bread, caramel nose
Appearance: Really nice looking reddish brown color with a medium tan head, some lacing
Flavor: It has got a really nice upfront hoppiness, with a great rye malt backing, that makes it work really, really well
Palate: Highly drinkable, great mouthfeel, works well from start to finish, a top notch palate
Overall Impression: I wouldn't change my rating at all from the first time, just added some detail, but I love this one. I still wish it was more available in my neck of the woods, but I'll buy it when I see it at least. Bear Republic makes some quality, quality beers.

Bottle from Binnys, Chicago. Chestnut/ruby red in colour with an off-white head. Sappy, pine resin aroma with some caramel and grapefruit. Flavour was sweet with some chewy malts before a big citrus hop finish which was very dry and left a prickly sensation in the mouth. Very good.

Bottle: Poured a reddish brown with thin tan head. Aroma is hops and malt. Taste is piney hop and yet balanced by the sweet maltiness.

Re-rate 7/10/12: Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Dagan. Clear amber with a beige head. Aroma of piney hops with resinous notes, malt and caramel notes. Sweet malty caramelly flavor with rye spiciness and a bitter finish with resinous hops. Medium-bodied. 6/3/6/3/13=3.1
(11/1/08) Draught at Father’s Office in Santa Monica. Dark reddish-brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma of piney hops, fruits notes and some malt. Resinous hops flavor with a bit of malt sweetness, some fruitiness, some alcohol, and a bitter finish with resin and pine nottes.. A rather oily mouthfeel. 7/4/6/3/13=3.3

Bottle a little over a year old. Huge hops in the nose and on the tongue, backed up by very nice, rich malt. I also could not clearly notice rye, but hey, it was complex and great.

Ahh... pours a nice reddish brown colour and has a beige head. Already looks nice. Hops in the nose, but leaves little expectation of taste. Taste is sweet and hoppy, but way easier to drink than most double IPAs. Silky smooth. As other people have noted about this beer, I did not really notice much rye action going down. If it were not so expensive (like other Bear Republic beers) I would buy more.

22oz bottle-pours a retaining thin off white head and hazy copper color. Aroma is nice citrus/pine hops. Taste is nice citrus/pine hops-some bitterness, nice balanced secondary medium malt, (OK rye too), solid. Thanks JP @ Trap Rock for sharing.
