For those of you who don’t know who “Scotty Karate” is. He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky-tonk influenced, punk-country songs. (Check him out at www.scottykaratetime.com) A big bold musician deserves a big bold beer, that’s why Scotty and our Scotch Ale are a perfect tribute to one another. Scotty Karate is brewed with cherry wood smoked malt instead of the traditional peat smoked malt offering up warming notes of coffee, caramel and sweet caramelized brown sugar. Scotty finishes earthy giving this beer a character all it’s own, just like the man himself.

12 ounce can from Lower Merion Beverage. Toasted malt aroma has notes of caramel and dark dried fruits. Flavor is sweet toasted malt, toffee, dark cherry, treacle and warming alcohol. Sticky mouthfeel. Full bodied and flavorful. Nicely done.

Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, raisins, some figs. Flavour is malty caramel sweetness, slight candy sugar, some dark fruits. Manages to hide its alcohol well.

No BBD, over three years in my cellar; Low gusher, no loss of beer; As you expect from a scotch ale, there are loads of melting caramel candy with berry like fruity edge, toffee, notes of butterscotch, dry fruits like figs, prunes, sweet toasted bread

On tap at Dark Horse, pours a clear dark amber / burgundy with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt and toasted caramel, with a touch of molasses. Flavour is rich, with lots of caramel, dark fruits, bready malt, and a little molasses. Rich and decadent without being too sweet. Excellent.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Roast, smoke and a hint of chocolate in the aroma. Toffee flavor with beechwood smoke, notes of caramel and milk chocolate. Sweetness is carefully matched by the smoke. Not too much alcohol. Nice one.

Keg at BD Soho, 10/04/19. Mahogany brown with a well presented khaki covering. Nose is fruit loaf, dried fruits, light booze, toffee. Taste comprises dates, stewed fruits, raisins, toffee, brown sugar, faint cocoa sprinkle, light spice. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff but lacks depth for the ABV.
