Saison, meaning ‘season’ in French, was originally brewed by farmers in the French-speaking parts of Belgium. Brewers of this beer used raw materials that were available at the particular time of season, meaning that the character of the beer would vary from farm to farm and from month to month. Our tribute to this seasonal brew uses blackcurrant juice and a special yeast that produces a lot of dry flavor and high carbonation. This dryness, together with the taste of the blackcurrants, gives the beer a lightly vinous tone.

Sampled from bottle @ Danish Ratebeer Gathering 2016, Ulfborg, Day 2. Nice quite bright, dark pink-amber, almost red-purple colored beer with a small to average sized pinkish head. Aroma has quite a lot of fruits, it reminds me of blueberry jam, blackberry jam. Taste is lightly sourish, it’s actually more tart rather than sourness, again blackberries and some other fruits. Can’t really put my finger on what it is exactly but it’s not bad in this beer.

T42 Bottleshare. Clear cherry red beer, good bubbly pink head. Palate is smooth and light, reasonable fine carbonation. Airy malts, a little cream. Light floralness before a modest but bitter savoury note. Mild blackcurrant and seltzer. More thin malt cream and then a floral finish. Odd but drinkable.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Kenwise. Pours deep ruby, clear, with a creamy, pink head. Interesting aroma, some bread, cherry, raspberry jam. Medium sweet flavor, vinous, with more jammy berries, light booze, tangy wood. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly tangy finish with more jammy berries, raspberry. Novel.
