Re:rate from the 2016 release bottle at Mechazilla event. Pretty similar to the old rating but the dryness on the finish and carbonation are outstanding. This held up to a lot of more famous beers at a tasting and is slightly underrated. Old Rating: Draft at Sapporo Craft Beer Forrest summer 2014. Beautiful clear and deep rose pink color with little to no head. Strong berry aroma with hints of lime and grass. Really nice and tart on the palate with a crisp dry finish. A hint of berry-like sweetness is present, but not sugary at all. This is a tart beer, the first I’ve tried of this style in Japan. Really well done. --- Beer merged from original tick of GRAND ROUGE on 26 Sep 2015 at 23:34 - Score: 8 --- Beer merged from original tick of Grand Rouge on 28 Dec 2017 at 22:21 - Score: 8. Bottle as Yamabushi Grand Rouge brewed with blueberries & raspberries. Served in a tulip this is a great looking beer pouring an orange-red with a pink tinged white head of foam. The aroma is stellar, tart raspberries with an undercurrent of blueberries. It brings to mind a warm summer day of berry picking in the Eastern Townships. Wow, much more blueberry than anticipated! I get a tart hit of raspberry followed by soft chalky blueberries ending on a fruity woodsiness. The finish is quite dry but primes you to take your next sip. I’m a bit on the fence regarding the flavors, the raspberry & blueberry seems to be fighting it out for supremacy with no clear winner other than my tastebuds. By far the most complex fruit beer I’ve looked at today, also the pricest at about 1700 yen for 750ml, worth it though. If you’ve yet to try it get it while you can.
