Quadrupel - Oak Aged Batch #25

BATCH 26 (blended in November 2016) was distributed as follows:

Type in BATCH
Dry white wine (Pouily Fumé & Sancerre) 78%
New Oak Medium Toast 22%
The aroma of Batch 26 is refreshing, floral and slight acidy (that comes from the white wine barrels). The characteristic aroma of vanilla and smoked oak is associated with cognac and in the background, a touch of malt and caramel scent.
The taste can be describes as explosive in which the wood tannins dominate. The full-bodied taste of this batch pushed the La Trappe Quadrupel to the background, yet it is definitely present. In addition, you taste the dominant flavours of honey, sweet caramel and fine oak.
The stimulating mouthfeel comes from the carbonation. Wood tannins also play a major role.
In short, a batch with a full-bodied taste. A suitable autumn beer that still gives us a feel of summer due to its lovely scent associations.

Zelfs iets wijnachtigs. Vele smaakschakeringen, nog meer dan de geur. Een prachtig bier!

8th December 2018 Almost clear reddish amber beer, short lived fizzing cream colour head. Smooth palate, fairly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Light malts, sweetish. Typical La Trappe Oak esters, slightly spicy. The cherry in this ba version seems more obvious than #24. A little blackcurrant and mild spice. Mild Port Wine. Just a trace of white wine, if you are looking for it. Light finish that carries on the soft dryness. Nice. Very drinkable.

375 ml bottle Pours a dull brown with light head. Aromas of toffee, green oak, and alcohol. Flavors follow same with additional butter, raisins and sweet malts. Thin. Still sweet and rough. Not yet ready.

0.375 l bottle from 'Holy Craft Beer Store', bottled in July 2016. A little hazy, ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, light beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and a bit yeasty aroma of caramel, molasses, raisins and some marzipan. Quite sweet, malty, moderately fruity and slightly yeasty taste of caramel, molasses, marzipan, raisins, prunes and a touch of vanilla, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly yeasty and rather warming finish with a touch of booze. Above medium-bodied, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Maybe not the best batch but still a very pleasant sipper with enough complexity.

Shared at tasting @ Koelschtrinker's place. Smooth woody malty beginning. Deep and malty in one, round and refreshing for that ABV. Smooth and deep, wood with hints of Kirsch-Schnaps, only hints of wood. The aftertaste is soft fruity, malty deep with a nice fresh woody fruity aroma. Round and nice!
