Elgood’s Coolship Sour Ale is brewed using traditional methods & original brewing equipment. Spontaneous fermentation is initiated on our unique double coolships. This unique English style sour beer, brewed in the artisanal manner at North Brink Brewery has been blended with Raspberry and a hint of Blackberry. The beer has a purple colour and a sparkling finish. The sweetness and rich berry flavour is off-set by the smooth sourness of the Coolship Ale, the hedgerow fruit aroma is prominent and with soft fruity tones.

Sampled @ Carnivale Brettanomyces. Hazy red color, no head. Aroma is a former very well known Dutch icecream called "speedy". Tastes like that as well with a brett touch and some red fruit in it. It works out ok but a pretty weird experience. Didn’t see that coming. Bonus points for this speedy fluid. For old times sake.

Draft @ Brett Fest 2015. Dark red color. Nice aroma of all kinds of fruit and a mild tart. Taste is rich, with raspberry, strawberry, lime and horseblanket. Great fruity sour.

Sampled cask @ In De Wildeman during Carnivale Brettanomyces #4. (Thanks for sharing Benzai, Ceasar, tlahav,…. ) Murky red fruit & melted sorbet appearance with no head whatsoever. Smells like melted sorbet, very cheap ice cream, red fruit sorbet, candy, sugar, quite candy sweet,… Taste is watery sweet red fruit sorbet, light grenadine, sugar, candy, red fruit ice cream,… Completely & flat & somewhat watery. Nothing at all like what I expect from an unblended fruit lambiek, good as a sweetened lambiek / sweet soda fruit beer ‘though, this wasn’t supposed to be sweetened I believe? Too much fruit & too little fermenting time maybe? Quite pleasant in the end if you think of it like drinking a melted sorbet.

Cask @ In de Wildeman at Carnivale 2015, small sample. Hazy reddish color, short frothy head. Aroma of supersweet fruity candy, bit marzipan, red fruit, raspberry. Very sweet in taste, but also with some fruity tartness to it. Quite harsh and a bit out of balance. Not for me.

Cask at In De Wildeman. Pours very hazy brown with a ring tan head. Aroma of sweet blackberries, really nothing else going on. Flavour is moderate sweet and sour. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation. Comes across artificial and one dimensional.

Bottle from Mother Kelly’s. It pours clear red with a small pink-white head. The nose is big juicy fruits, raspberry, blackcurrant, pomegranate, candy and not much funky/sour action. The taste is crisp, tart, so very juicy, tangy raspberry, blackcurrant, big pomegranate character, touch of sharp lemon with a dry, clean finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Doesn’t even taste alcoholic! I would have preferred a bit more sour/funk, but this is so damn juicy and drinkable. Perhaps a touch sweet, but really who cares.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s - London. Pours clear off-pink with no head. Great nose, filled with jammy raspberry, faint lemon, grape skin. Light sweet flavor with brisk acidity, some tart raspberry, a bit of citric bite, mild bitter raspberry seeds. Light bodied with average, spritzy carbonation. Super clean on the finish with a bit more tangy raspberry, mellow lactic funk, lemon juice. Not terribly complex but immensely drinkable.
