Welcome back our boldly hoppy pal. Legendary Cascade hops mix-it-up with assertive Simcoe for a powerful, citrusy and earthy foundation that is galvanized with a big punch of fruity Citra. This IPA packs a hoppy wallop!

Bottle. Golden color. Orange, pineapple and ginger in the aroma. Spicy, malty sweet oily hopbitter flavor with orange, pineapple and peach. Long spicy hopbitter aftertaste. Well done.

Tap@Bootleggers, Copenhagen - clear golden pour with a thin white head. Sweet malty and fruity, some citrus notes with some orange and grapefruit revealing themselves, solid sweet malty backbone, sweet caramel, bitter resinous hoppy finish. Decent old skool dipa!

12 ounce bottle. Bright yellow gold pour. Finger high beige head is frothy with a tight bead. Immensely fragrant hop bouquet hints at resiny pine and dank citrus. Toasted malt base is quickly overcome by the bursting hop flavor. Citra and Simcoe offer tons of complex bitterness. Resin and black pepper finish. Absolutely bitterrific!

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Andover Classic Wines. Appearance is clear yellow with tons of sparkle, finger-width foamy, white head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is biscuit dough malts dwarfing mild citrus. Taste is malty--more Pilsner/cracker than caramel--with trace citrus and dry bitterness. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, soft-to-average carbonation and dry, mostly bitter finish. Overall, surprising out-of-whack malt-to-hop balance for a beer called Hop Wallop--minimal hop FLAVOR to speak of, especially for a citra/simcoe offering; mainly malt flavors and hop bitterness.

A kinder, gentler Hop Wallop. Years have gone by since I've had a pint, so I'm not sure how long this scaled-down version has been the recipe, but, despite putting back many a sixer of the old brew back in the day, I'm a fan of the new(ish) approach. The hardcore caramel and pine of the original have been reined in, with more cracker and grass and tropical-citrus notes replacing the DIPA indulgence of the original. (At 7.5%, I'm not sure new Hop Wallop still counts as an Imperial IPA.) Definitely brighter, with an easier finish--the bitterness is prominent, but no longer as palate-wrecking--yet still tasty as hell.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a small bit of white foam that dissipates. Light orange zest and marmalade notes. Bitter on the palate with dried orange zest, pine and toasted caramel. Some peppery bitter hops that linger. A bit thin and boozy. --- Beer merged from original tick of Victory Hop Wallop on 19 Jan 2019 at 10:29 - Score: 6
