Hoponius Union harmoniously combines lager yeast fermentation and West Coast IPA hops. Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist – it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile.

Jack’s Abby Hoponius Union
West Coast style hoppy lager 6.5%

Beautiful matte gold with wispy white foam and a stone fruit & herbal hoppiness. Good stuff.

A pillowy well laced head on a golden straw body. A massive citrus and tropical fruit nose is a hit. The hops are there in force in the taste profile - grapefruit, kiwi, orange and melon are all fresh and refreshing. A very drinkable bitterness that is not astringent or difficult to take. A solid medium body and carbonation, and the lager yeast, help give it a smooth, enjoyable mouth feel. The malt is appropriately sweet but understated.

Bottled. Pours cloudy gold. Hops citrus grapefruit and pine but a crisp lager finish. Good.

Came recommended. Disappointed. Really like the western Massachusetts vibe, except it's so not western Massachusetts. Apparently.

Pour is a clear orange with a large white head. Aroma is a generic hop resin with some caramel malt. Flavor is citrus hops with a bit of sweet malt but finishes clean. I guess that's the lagering. Decent hoppy lager.

Feet and orange nose. Clear amber, medium head. Orange, tea, grass. Medium body, easy carbonation. More of an English flavor, IMO.

Wish I’d found a fresher can; date says March 2023 so these hops are pretty long in the tooth. As is, lots of pine, a little citrus, some apple and white bread, and a moderate woody bitterness on the finish. Not bad, but probably better fresh.

One of the highlights in a delivery from Halftime is a 16 oz can of Hoponius Union. The can is cold and my New Belgium globe glass has been cooled, the right moves on a 100+ late afternoon. The pour delivers a semi-clear golden liquid with a steady top of arctic white foam. I smell field, meadow and freedom. I take a drink, this beer is not going to change my life, but it is fine. A good amount of hoppiness, grapefruit, malt and I get a bit of pineapple sweetness. On the back end, it is crisply bitter. A solid brew.

On tap at Man in the Moon. Golden with a white head. Citrus, caramel, hops and some malt. Medium bitter finish.

Can. Golden amber with modest white head. Aroma of mango, oranges, light bread. Yes, does have that transparent lager palate. Sweetness is brief with mainly citrusy hops sweeping it away before moderate bitterness. It's not quite like they just bunged an IPA hop dose into a pale lager - it has a little more class than that because the hops don't overpower things - but I'm not quite sure I see the point.
