Bottle from Firma Bier, batch 1404 brewed 01.03.15 BB 04.04.19, large sample. Dark color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of lots of chocolate, some dark fruit, bit vanilla, some piney hops, roast, coffee. Medium bitterness, dark roast, some licorice. Quite some hoppy notes as well. Good, but not stunning. --- Beer merged from original tick of Imperial Rye Porter on 28 Dec 2018 at 22:09 - Score: 7

Sampled on several occasions, one of those beers that I love to go back to. Black pour, ruby-tinted, with a very tall tan head with excellent retention. Smells like roasted malts, dark chocolate, cherries, passion fruit, pine. The taste follows the same notes, with an addition of milk chocolate and toffee. Smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation and a fruity chocolate bitter-sweet aftertaste.

Deep brown to black liquid, outstanding creamy beige to brown head. It’s not laces, it’s a thick ring covering the whole surface of glass. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, american hops, earth, dry fruit. Creamy palate, medium to full body. Alcohol not obvious. The taste is bittersweet with all the notes of aroma present plus brown bread, brandy, portwine. Excellent balance. Smooth and rich. Very nice.

Collaboration between Nögne Ö and Terrapin, with a dense and regularly structured, creamy, yellow beige head and ink black colour, totally opaque at first, but revealing itself to actually be a hazy dark burgundy in the last drops. Pleasant sweet, spicy and malty aroma of warm chocolate sauce with cognac, gingerbread, dried banana, black pepper, rye bread, dried banana, kahlua, pipe tobacco, shortbread, toast, raisins, candied figs, hints of vanilla, red wine, dried grapefruit peel, liquorice, brambleberries, coffee beans, pine needles (i.e. American hops almost like in a black IPA but much more subtle) - something new seems to pop up every time I take a sniff. Tangy onset of condensed candied fruits, dates, raisins, with only a ’narrow’ trail of sweetness, paired with a deep rye sourishness and spiciness, soft carbo with a very creamy, velvety, thick body, flowing into the throat like fresh cream; a liquorice-like flavour plays somewhere in the middle, over a deep, thickly layered malt backbone, caramelly in the most noble sense of the word, nutty, bitter chocolatey and lightly coffeeish in the end, with just a dash of bittering espresso on the back of the tongue, further reinforced with peppery, piney, dried citrus peel hop bitterness, lingering fruitiness and warming, brandy-like alcohol; the overall impression is very malty but deeply, softly spicy as well (likely the rye effect mixing with the hops), with a perfect balance between sweet and bitter. Smooth, clean, pleasantly warming and technically perfect imperial porter. I am not yet familiar with Terrapin’s beers, but the Nögne Ö quality stamp is unmistakably there.
