Two-year-old Lambic in which elderberry flowers have been soaked.

The character of the elderberry flowers lends this beer a very pronounced, floral taste that is nevertheless very refreshing.

Since 2008, once a year Cantillon Brewery has produced Zwanze, a special-edition beer that is completely different each time around, with Mamouche originally appearing as Zwanze 2009. This beer is completely different from anything else produced by Cantillon, and we decided to continue producing it on a regular basis. Mamouche is what the seven grandsons of the Van Roy-Cantillon family call their grandmother, Claude Cantillon. As such it is the counterpart of the Lou Pepe beers.

Flaska från Beergium. 2014 vintage. Djup lite söt och syrlig fläderdoft som från flädersaft, ingen fläderbomb men också citrus, stall och fat. Ganska mjuk syra, en hel del citrus med en lätt beska i eftersmaken och så väl integrerad fläder. riktigt gott.

Bottle at the brewery. Very fresh, juicy, natural elderflower flavour - moderate in intensity and more or less defining the beer. There is underlying subtle funk and only light sourness, but mostly a very pleasant and easy drinking elderflower beer.

Had this at the Zwanze Day Celebration and didn’t really get enough of a sample to do a good enough job reviewing. But from what I did get- beer was more tart than sweet. Couldn’t get much if any elderflower. Finished a bit dry. Just kind of a basic lambic that wasn’t bad, but nothing special.

On tap at Zwanze Day at Crooked Stave. Hazy bronze color, with a medium, persistent, creamy head. Strong herbal character, hard cheese, and lemon peel. Dry and nicely tart flavor, with a bit of sweetness leading to a clean finish. Light to medium body, sticky, astringent, and only a little acidic. This is a unique and interesting lambic. I was unimpressed at first, but it grew on me.

Bottle at Erzbierschof Zurich at Vintage Tasting Zwanze 2016, 2016 vintage. Lots of elderflower, very fresh and citric fruity. Some sourness and a bit tart, but rather light in this respect. Soft carbonation, but still rather much. One of the most accessible lambics I had in a long time.

Tap into a wineglass showing moderately filtered honey orange and sparse white foam. The nose shows a lot of brett, apricot, and light floral notes. The palate is moderately carbonated and lightly carbonated. Very gently tart with flavors of dried apricot and very light bell pepper in the background.
