Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

You can’t make a beer this rich, thick and tasteful at 6.5% abv. Exceptional. A thick tan head with top to bottom lacing atop a near-black body. The nose is an enticing mix of milk chocolate, vanilla and a hint of coffee. Stupendous taste profile, led by chocolate, vanilla, oak, and some bitterness. Ripe berries, almonds and cream round out a well balanced presentation. solid carbonation and incredible density help sustain a great beer.

Old rating - A 341ml bottle brought from Bishop's Cellar in Halifax & poured at home in Jersey, Channel Islands. It pours a dark brown with a beige head. Aromas & tastes of roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla and hints of bourbon whisky. Considering I'm not a lover of stouts in general; this was delicious in taste & simply outstanding overall.

Draught from G-man hattan. Stolid dark pour with a contrastingly bright white head that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Dark roasty malts and chocolate flavors to taste. Very well done.

Bottle shared at home. Pours jet black with brown head. Nose is dark chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee notes. Taste is dry dark chocolate and cocoa powder, light vanilla, a smoky touch even. The balance is simply mindvlowing here and while it might not be the most complex beer ever, but so very well rounded. Lovely.

Well i was very hyped to try this beer. I have to admit, it did not live up to the hype. It was an excellent stout, lovely notes of vanilla, and chocolate, but they seemed a tad thin. Some smoke lingered, and added a nice dimension, but this is not even close to the Peche Mortel.

473mL can [as Aphrodite]. Pours black with small tan head. Roasted malts, vanilla, and cocoa. Flavour is similar: lots of roasted malts and cocoa, offser sweet vanilla. Reasonably full-bodied. Rich and nice depth of flavour. Excellent stout.

16 ounce can labeled as Aphrodite, from Pinocchio’s Beer Garden in Media, PA. What a find. The number 2 highest rated “Flavored Pastry Stout” in the World! Opaque black pour. Frothy dark tan head is enduring. Roasted malt aroma is redolent of dark chocolate. Remarkably smooth mouthfeel upfront. Bittersweet dark chocolate, vanilla and bitter, peppery hops. Outstanding.
