On tap at the Wharf. A finger thick off-white to beige head sits on top of a clear, amber body. Caramel malts and some fruityness on the nose. Not unpleasant, but a bit weak. There’s some licorice hints too. The flavor has a grainy maltyness, caramel and some faint licorice hints. Raisins too. It’s full bodied and a bit sweetish, smooth carbonation. Dried fruits and caramel in the finish. A decent one, but ordinary. 111106

Chevy Chase, DC 500ml ($2-3): Pours an amber color with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Aroma is of very sugared up caramel malts and that’s about it. Taste is kind of sweet and malty throughout and finishes out with a sort of smoked out flavor that has a few hops notes accompanying it. Drinkable enough, but nothing really special.

Draft at The Taste of London Food Festival 2011. It pours clear red-amber, with moderate carbonation and a foamy off-white head. The nose is caramel malt, roasted barley, metal and Ovaltine. The taste is caramel, fruit cake, metal, milk chocolate, nut, praline, nougat and hay, with a dry finish. Overall it is fairly sweet, but decent enough (and not as bad as I was expecting!).

500ml bottle from Alko i Hetta. Dark red amber body. Roasted coffee, dates and malt aroma. Toffee, raisin. plum and cherry taste, with a hint of anise. The carbonation disrupts a smooth finish. Shared at the Back to the USSR Session Aug. 17th 2010.
