XXXX refers to the alcohol level and the depth of flavour in this stout. Our kettle hops drum up a fabulous aroma, flaked barley delivering big time on texture and the darkly roasted grain building a flavour as solid as a rock. Not for the faint hearted. Can you handle it?

Black with a tan nitro head. Aroma of licorice and roasted malt with a faint note of smoke. Sweetish licorice and roast flavour with a hint of herbal hops. More flavourful than your average Guinness

From tap at Charlies. Pours pitch black with a creamy chocolate brown head. Aroma is of chocolate and liqourice. Smooth and creamy body. Bitter and roasted malt flavoured with a distinct liqourice acidic touch. Bitter and citric flavoured finish. Lingering smooth roasted note into the far finish. Bitter and roasted lasting impression.

On tap at the Porterhouse, London 09/06/09. Jet black with a decent, tight, off-white head. Big, roasted barley aroma with a pleasant chocolate edge. Flavour had dark chocolate, espresso coffee and a decent bitter finish. Very good.

bottle at Ft Wayne tasting - Pours near black with a long lasting tan head. It smells of roast malt with some coffee. The flavor is mainly those roast malts with some coffee and some good, mild hops. Itโs medium to full bodied and nicely balanced. Enjoyable. Rerate on tap at the Temple Bar location - Almost identical rating: 7/4/8/4/14

Moderately, off-white head resting all the way on top of a pitch black body. Sweet coffee aroma. Roasted coffee beans in flavour turning into more coffee grounds towards the ending. Bitter finish (third pint glass on a sample tray, draught at Porterhouse London 05.08.2008).
