What you have here is the only Imperial IPA in America inspired by a bowl of soup and a thrift store football game...
Back in the 90’s, Sam was struck by a cooking show demo teaching viewers how to properly season soup through a process of continuous peppering. As it stewed and simmered, the chef added pepper in small but consistent doses, bringing through a unique bold taste and intense savory notes. If it worked for soup, why not beer?! Inspiration sparked and Sam knew that Dogfish needed to bring this idea of continuous dosing to our hop additions in the brewhouse.
Enter our thrift store electric football game. If rigged at just the right angle over the brew kettle, and covered with hops instead of small dancing football players, the vibrating playing field would perfectly shake and shimmy the hops cascading down into the boiling wort at a consistent rate. Continual hopping was born!
Continual hopping provided a beautiful balance to our Imperial IPA - allowing us to add a foolhardy amount of hops throughout the boil without making 90 Minute crushingly bitter. With rich pine and fruity citrus hop aromas and a strong malt backbone, 90 Minute IPA created pungent, unapologetic flavor that led Esquire to call it “perhaps the best IPA in America.”

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours amber-copper with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and citrus. Taste is caramel, citrus, resin. More malty than the average IPA. Good.

Bottle from a supermarket in New York, enjoyed in my hotel. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with a lasting bubbly/creamy off-white head. Aroma of hop, caramel, malt, light tropical and citrus fruit, plus cake with a light herbal and spice edge. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Finish is sticky, fruity, malty. Very good.

Bottle at thee tip tap room. Thx Luke ! Pours darker blonde to copper amber ,small White head. Smell is full, thick malty , bitter pine hoppy aroma. Taste is full, intensely bitter, full-on crunchy malts ( caramel, dark bread, intense crisp ) very damn nice ! Bitterness is also high, as to be expected. Extremely full in taste. Never out of balance, never turning at a characteristic of itself. Very nice approach to a rather extreme beer.

On tap. Pours a slightly hazy orange-gold with a medium, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet fruity aroma of caramel malt, grapefruit, orange, peach and pine. Sweet fruity flavour of caramel malt, grapefruit, orange, peach, apricot, tropical fruit and pine needles with a dry, bitter, hop resin finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Excellent.

Bottle 330ml (bottled 28.07.2016). Piwo delikatnie zmętnione o bursztynowej barwie z obfitą, biało-żółtawą pianą i przede wszystkim trwałą. Aromat słodki, wyraźnie słodowy, taki cukierkowy, nieco karmelowy z nutami owoców tropikalnych, żywicy, przyjemny choć wyraźnie słodowy a mniej chmielowy. W smaku też słodowość wiedzie prym, choć słodycz jest tylko delikatna, goryczka też niewielka i dochodzi do tego dość wyczuwalny alkohol. Fakt, że piwo najświeższe nie jest, prawie 11 miesięcy po zabutelkowaniu choć data ważności jest do końca roku (12.2017), to piwo z butów nie wyrywa, jest głównie słodowe z mała goryczką i nutką alkoholu. Na plus pijalność, bo piwo mimo 9 woltów jest dość lekkie w odbiorze ale po kilku łykach czuć rozgrzewanie od środka. Ogólnie przyzwoite piwo.

Aus der Flasche auf der Berliner Biermeile 2013 getrunken. Nein dies hier ist für mich kein IPA, denn es hat mit seinen eher malzigen, süßlichen Körper eher was von einen belgischen Dubbel mit leichten Bitternoten. Eine Frucht kann man nur erahnen. Eine Themaverfehlung, aber trotzdem ein schönes Bier!

Many thanks for this beer to CH-303. Piwo pachnie niesamowicie pasiflora. w smaku takze tropikalnie. Mango grejfrut i melony, takze jest lekka slodycz ananasa i caly czas mocna potegujaca sie za kazdym lykiem gorycz, mocno chmielne piwo z piekna flora owocowa. Metniste mocno ciemno pomaranczowej barwy.

330ml bottle from Beer Cartel. Orange amber course with an off-white foam head leaving lots of lacing and aroma of malt caramel, toffee & mellow orange citrus. Taste is sweet, malty, caramel, raisins, honey, fruity floral orangey, marmalade, pine, with dank hop resiny bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, full to medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Well integrated flavours, very drinkable.

0.355 l bottle from ’Beergium’, bottled in November 2016 (five months old). Clear, dark amber with a medium large, frothy, stable, off-white head. Sweetish, rather resiny and moderately fruity aroma of orange jam, lots of pine, mango and a touch of honey. Rather sweet, malty, resiny and moderately fruity taste of lots of pine, orange jam, honey, candied ginger and some blueberry, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, very resiny and a bit herbal-grassy finish. Full body, sticky, creamy to oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Very much on the sweet side, huge malt character, but still enough hops for the balance, might be better with a really fresh bottle. Still very nice!
