American Wild Ale Fermented with Blueberry Juice

MALTS: Pils, Wheat, Vienna, Spelt
HOPS: Nugget, Sterling
SECRET INGREDIENTS: Blueberry juice, Native yeast harvested from blueberry skins

One mid-summer day, John and a group of furry cohorts we navigating through a blueberry field. Suddenly one of his furry friends, who had just gone through a difficult breakup, started bashing blueberries with a mallet. John said to the creature, "Friend, fret not for we will bring these blueberries back to the brewery and save them for you to snack on later." John put the blueberries by his desk and then forgot about them. As days turned to weeks, the blueberries began to ferment, as stuff by John's desk tends to do. As weeks turned to months, a spicy, almost peppery aromatic began wafting from the corner. Re-discovering the blueberries, John decided to try and make a beer with them. Also because he wanted to play off out like that was his plan the whole time. Now that the beer is here, we can only look back at that faithful day with joy and be thankful about that furious, furry creature.

Bottle shared by Levi, thanks! Pours a hazy amber orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sour blueberry with a bit of funk underlying. Flavor has tart and slightly yogurty blueberry with light wheat and funk backing.

A dark reddish gold ale with a thin white head. In aroma , sweet fruity malt with light acidity, blueberry, light mineral notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity blueberry with light vanilla and buttery notes, nice and smooth. On tap at Eris Brewery.

Draught @ Milk & Hops (11/9/18). Clear reddish copper with foamy off-white head, acidic berry aroma, high carbonation, medium bitter mildly sour roasted malt taste with berry aroma, smooth body, long medium sour finish. Interesting flavor profile.

Reviewed from notes.
Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a semi-burnt red to purple color with a sly lingering little white foamy head that fell off at a steady pace. Not much lace, but somewhat stringy, quaint and sliding.
The aroma had some blueberry flesh, light wood/somewhat like oak, light vinous, and some grassy fresh hops.
The flavor was vinous semi-soured but balanced with the blueberry fresh sweetness. Light tartness from the blueberry skin to lightly blend with the woodiness. Barely any aftertaste but a sly crisp semi-sweet and tart little finish.
The feel was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Quaint carbonation and the ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty nice sour ale and since I’m a fan of blueberries, that’s another plus for this beer.

750ml. Odd nail polish aroma. Really dry. Very sweet, sort of heavy handed. Hot alcohol tones, which don’t really work with the blueberry. Mead tones. Honey acetone. Would never want a full pour. Probably not healthy to ingest.
