Pours black with a thin white head. Aroma of maple and burnt coffee. Taste has bitter mocha notes, toasted coffee. Palate has chocolate, sweet maple on the nose. Good.

Tap & crowler at JRs. Pours like thicker coffee, a little viscous on a really dark brown brew. Thin skummy head. No real noticeable nose when really cold. Taste is all about black coffee with a tad of beer alky in it. In the middle it has an almost perceivable tartness int here? Taste it? Well, maybe not, it was just a passing thought. Ends like it starts, big strong cold black coffee with a mildly alky kick. Good cutting co2 to the end. Co2 makes its personality a little more acceptable considering how strong the coffee effect.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice and relatively rich three centimetre tall light-brown head that stays afloat for quite a while. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee (no surprise there), molasses, chocolate and a heavy dose of peated malt. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong almost grapey flavour at first with a big hit of the light coffee and pungent peated malt, with some light chocolate and a touch of dry spices thrown in towards the end. Aftertaste shows more of the earth, grain, chocolate and especially the brewed coffee flavour at the very end with no real sugars anywhere to be found, but a lot of coffee and earthier malts. Overall, a pretty nice chocolate and coffee based beer that is a touch on the thin side, but with some other lighter earthier flavours that somehow create more pungency than the coffee and grain. Good to sample and a nice beer, even in the summer with the brewed coffee notes hitting better than just the skins/pulp. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 31-January-2018 for US$1,79 sampled in my hotel room here in New York, New York on 11-August-2018.

Bottle pour into tulip glass from The Beer Store, Nashua. Appearance is almost opaque black--dark mahogany with light source directly behind--with fizzy, ephemeral, finger-width light brown head with no lacing. Aroma is strong, roasted malt and coffee, just shy of burnt. Taste is bittersweet roasted coffee. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, average-to-lively carbonation and dry, crisp finish as taste. Overall, the aroma and flavor are strong but there's nothing here but coffee. Fizzy head and carbonation level seem off for the style and the palate is too thin. Gotta do better than this.

16 oz draft at the Grog, Newburyport, MA. Aroma is mostly ground coffee with light English ale yeast. Pretty nice coffee character in the flavor. Weak roated backbone, mild chocolate nuance. Maybe a touch of over extraction in the bean. Body is meduim, not quite full.( but really reasonable for the 5.6%) Creamy texture.
